Australia's dominance in the cricket World Cup is similar to Roger Federer's dominance in tennis majors from 2004 to 2010. Either Australia wins the World Cup or the teams that defeat them go on to win it. The last team to win the World Cup without beating Australia was West Indies in 1979. In every other tournament, Australia has either won or been defeated by the eventual champions. This trend may continue in the 2023 World Cup if Australia defeats South Africa in the semis or if South Africa/India win the tournament.
