NEW DELHI: India captain Rohit Sharma chose to field first after winning the toss in the T20 World Cup encounter against the United States in New York on Wednesday.

The Indian team remained unchanged from their previous game against Pakistan.

The USA had to make a couple of changes due to injuries. Monank Patel missed out this match with a left-shoulder injury. As a result, Aaron Jones stepped in as the stand-in captain for this crucial match.

Additionally, the absence of left-arm spinner Nosthush Kenjige was another significant setback for the American side.

"It has played better in the last two games, but you need to assess the conditions quickly and then let the game take over. It's all about constantly getting better and keeping the momentum going. It's important to do the right things. That was a great game to play, we didn't have enough runs on the board, but the bowlers came to the party and won the game for us, Rohit said.

"We would have bowled first as well, there's some help for the bowlers early. It should be a good game and we're looking to play well. The camp is very positive, just looking to play some good cricket," stand-in captain Aaron Jones said.

Teams:

India: Rohit Sharma (captain), Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj.

USA: Steven Taylor, Shayan Jahangir, Andries Gous(wk), Aaron Jones (captain), Nitish Kumar, Corey Anderson, Harmeet Singh, Shadley van Schalkwyk, Jasdeep Singh, Saurabh Netravalkar, Ali Khan.
