NEW DELHI: Former England captain Nasser Hussain has shared his predictions for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, slated to be held in the West Indies and USA from June onwards.
While expressing that England, under the influential leadership of Jos Buttler, has the potential to win back-to-back titles, Hussain has selected South Africa as a surprise package to claim the trophy.
"I have not thought too much about this actually...but I am going to go with South Africa," Hussain was quoted as saying by ICC. He acknowledged England as the reigning champions but pointed out their current form. Considering the tournament is in the Caribbean, Hussain also acknowledged the competitive West Indies and Pakistan teams.
"I am going to go for South Africa versus England in the final," he concluded, basing his prediction on South Africa's impressive performance in the recent ICC Men's Cricket World Cup and the emergence of talent through their domestic T20 competition, SA20.
Hussain highlighted the return of key pace duo Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala as potential boosts for South Africa in the T20 World Cup. He expressed optimism about the depth, class, and talent that the Proteas have developed, particularly with the enhancement of their players in the SA20 competition.
Speaking about potential contenders for the 'Player of the Tournament' award, Hussain tipped India's Suryakumar Yadav. He praised Yadav as a "freak" in T20 cricket, emphasizing his ability to navigate the format with precision and entertainment.
"The person for the world to watch out for at the moment in T20 is Suryakumar Yadav," Hussain remarked, highlighting Yadav's exceptional skills and describing the experience of watching him in T20 cricket as "absolutely fun."
Hussain believes Yadav has the potential to claim the coveted Player of the Tournament award at the upcoming T20 World Cup.
