Somvati Amavasya 2024: Amavasya is one of the most powerful day as this day is dedicated to honour ancestors or forefathers. This Amavasya is going to fall on Monday so it is known that Somvati Amavasya. Amavasya is also known as New Moon day which is considered a significant day for purification. Somvati Amavasya is being observed today i.e., on September 2, 2024.

Somvati Amavasya 2024: Significance
Amavasya is one of the most significant day when people pay homage to their ancestors or forefathers. This day is considered auspicious for worshipping ancestors and they perform various puja rituals and ceremonies to seek blessings from their descendants. Performing Pitru Tarpan, Pitru Puja, Pind Daan, Pitru Dosha Nivaran Puja and other puja rituals are the common practices.
People visit various holy places to take sacred bath in Ganga river. Feeding cows is one of the most common practice. Invite Brahmins at home to perform puja ritual. Donating food items and clothes to brahmins or needy people is one of the most important thing which should be done on the day of Amavasya.
As we all know that it is Somvati Amavasya, so people are advised to offer prayers to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and also Lord Vishnu. They should visit the temple and perform abhishekam to Shivalingam.
Somvati Amvasya 2024: Puja Rituals
1. People wake up early in the morning and take bath before starting puja rituals.
2. Light a diya with desi ghee in puja room in the name of ancestors.
3. Prepare sattvik food items and invite priest or brahmin at home who can perform pitru tarpan.
4. Offer food, clothes and dakshina to the preist or brahmin.
5. Feed animals such as cows, dogs, crows, and ants.
6. This day is believed to be highly beneficial for spiritual growth.
7. Once you are done with pitru puja then you must perform puja to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu and chant various vedic mantras dedicated to them.
8. Donate some money, clothes and food to the needy ones.
Amavasya is the most significant day for Hindus to perform pitru puja and offer respect and pay homage to their ancestors. By performing tarpan and fasting, people seek their ancestors' blessings, and purify their souls.

New moon is definite event and verifiable in orbit. But, the day is[X] is misnomer because many times in the history, rulers or religious leaders have changed the day count and rescheduled the day. So, nothing can be said about the combination of tithi & day or month.Read allPost comment
