Solar New Year marks the beginning of the new solar calendar. According to the Vedic astrology, Sun will move from Pisces zodiac sign to Aries zodiac sign. This day is also known as Mesh Sankranti. The day holds a great religious significance in Hindu religion. As per Hindu Calendar, new year is going to begin from April 14, 2026 in the month of Vaishakha.

Mesh Sankranti is considered as an auspicious day as the day marks the beginning of a New year according to the Solar Calendar. Mesh Sankranti is observed, when the Sun enters Aries zodiac sign from Pisces. Solar New Year is also observed as Mesh Sankranti. This year, Mesh Sankranti is going to be observed on April 14, 2026. Mesha Sankranti is regarded as an extremely fortunate day in Hindu religion. According to the solar calendar, the New year officially begins on this day. On this auspicious day, people travel to several sacred places, including haridwar, kashi, rishikesh, mathura, and other well-known spiritual places to bathe in the Ganga and yamuna river. It is believed that individuals can atone for their previous transgressions by taking a sacred bath in the Ganga River. On this auspicious day of Mesha Sankranti, some devotees offer prayers and bhog prasad to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.
1. Get up early and take a holy bath in the yamuna or ganga river.
2. If you are unable to take bath in the Ganga river, you can add few drops of Gangajal in a bucket and then take a holy bath at home.
3. Offer water to Lord Surya by adding jaggery and red flowers in that. This is how you can activate your Sun energy.
3. You can perform Sun salutations to seek the blessings of Lord Surya.
4. You are advised to offer prayers to your kul devta or devi and light a diya with desi ghee in front of them to seek their blessings so that you can start your new year with their blessings.
5. Many people invite brahmins at home and provide them food and clothes.
6. On this auspicious day, some individuals organise yajna and hawan that helps to remove negative energy and start their new year with positivity.
1. Offering Surya Arghya or water is one of the most important remedy you can do to appease Sun.
2. You must seek blessings of your father by touching the feet.
3. You can add red flowers and jaggery while offering water.
4. Donate seven types of grains among needy ones.
5. You should feed the cows with chapati and jaggery.
6. Give feed, clothes, footwears and dakshina, to brahmins.
7. Chant various Surya mantras to appease and seek the blessings of Lord Surya.
8. You are advised to recite Aditya Hridya Stotram sitting under the sunlight.
9. People who have pitru dosha in their horoscope, they can organise the pitru puja by conducting the Gayatri path. This will remove the pitru dosha.
