Robin Sharma’s 10 rules for a better world

International best-selling author and leadership expert, Robin Sharma is best-known for his book 'The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari'. Through his works, Sharma has turned into an inspiration of sorts for many and he often shares his wisdom with his fans and followers on social media. In a recent post, Sharma shared his 10 rules for a better world. These 10 rules cut through noise, urging one to indulge in self-mastery amid chaos. In a world full of quick fixes and endless scrolls, these simple rules help build unbreakable character, kinder communities, and a healthier planet. Here's what they are:

2/11

Make yourself a better person

Sharma's first rule is your daily grind: Elite performers keep learning throughout their life, thus growing and becoming a better version of themselves every single day. They read voraciously, lift weights, meditate-- and build micro-habits that stack together, improving them little by little. To become your best self, you need to do the same. Also, track your progress weekly and see how far you have come. Meanwhile, work on your flaws.

3/11

Take responsibility for your actions

Having a victim mode kills your potential. So, own every outcome. For instance, when stuck in a traffic jam, letting the situation worsen your mood is up to you. Sharma preaches radical accountability: No blame, no excuses. Shift your victim mentality to growth mindset instead. The world heals when people stop whining, and start owning.

4/11

Stop following the flock

Followers blindly chase trends, while legends forge paths. If you want to be successful and make the world a little better place, then ditch the viral trends and hypes, instead follow your heart and do what you really love. For example, if the 9-5 job feels soul-crushing then take a leap of faith and quit; work on your dream project instead. Trends fade; convictions endure.

5/11

Only release beautiful work

Consistent mediocre work, in a way, insults the genius within. And so, Robin Sharma demands excellence: Polish until you're proud of your work. The world becomes a better place via masterpieces - yours included.

6/11

Treat everyone with respect and kindness

Practising small acts of kindness regularly not only makes one feel good but also uplifts others. Simple acts like making eye contact with others and smiling, saying "Thanks," or holding the door for others also counts. Practice: Assume positive intent and elevate others. The world softens through civility.

7/11

Read books of wisdom

Knowledge fuels revolutions. There are several benefits of reading-- from improving your vocabulary to expanding your worldview. So, make it a habit to read at least one hour daily-- it helps reshape mindsets. The world advances through informed souls.

8/11

Clean up your mess

Integrity shines in aftermaths. Spilled coffee? Wipe. Promise broken? Amend. Sharma: Leave spaces better. Cluttered desk mirrors cluttered mind - so, become more organised by organising your space. Post-meeting, tidy notes. When this rule is applied in relationships, apologising for oversight helps build trust. Leaders own chaos and fix quietly. Whereas, messes multiply if ignored.

9/11

Cherish mother nature

The planet is our home, so nurture it, says Robin Sharma. Urban grind disconnects us, while nature recharges. So, swap cars for cycles - it will not only improve your health, but also improve the planet. Incorporate green micro-habits: Use reusable bottles, ditch the car and walk where possible, etc. Little changes can help make an impact.

10/11

Remember how short life is!

Sharma says that life is short, so prioritise fiercely. Minimise your regrets, take that risk, and live life to the fullest. The world is a better place when people are more mindful and live with purpose.

11/11

Give more than you take

Generosity scales success. And so, Sharma says, add value first - give free advice, smiles, service-- it will get reciprocated soon. Reciprocity creates positivity, thus improving the world. That's why most leaders and billionaires give back to the society.
