Micro-cheating: 5 subtle signs you should not ignore

Cheating is not always about crossing a physical line. Sometimes people engage in micro-cheating without realising it. Because micro-cheating isn't as obvious or dramatic as infidelity. It is a gray area, and most people are not fully conscious of it. The subtle signs often go unnoticed until the damage has already been done. This is exactly why micro-cheating can be more dangerous than infidelity. Here are 5 subtle signs of micro-cheating people do without realizing it.

2/6

They hide who they are texting

Another telltale sign of micro-cheating. The cheater tends to hide who they are texting. They may flip the phone over or lower the brightness so much that even they struggle to see what’s on the display. Such cheaters will also be vague about who they are talking to. They will wait until you leave the room to respond. Though the partner feels bad, they ignore those feelings. Because they are so close to the ‘special’ friend.

3/6

There is someone who just gets them!

At first glance, it seems harmless. Having a ‘friend’ to talk to is no crime. But over time, the emotional intimacy starts to rival what’s happening at home. The special ‘friend’ may understand them just right. It almost feels like a connection; they have been looking all along. This will only create an emotional disconnect with their partner.

4/6

Sliding into DMs

Now, most people feel it is harmless to like, leave a comment, follow, or message in ways that cross from friendly into something else. But it isn’t. What is the intention here? It is all out in the open, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it is not cheating. You are a bank professional, so why are you liking every photo of a model? Why are you following similar accounts? What does that ‘Ooh, that’s fab’, in the DM mean?

5/6

Oversharing with others

If your partner’s work-wife knows more about your life than you do, it’s a problem. Why would your partner’s friend know more about her emotional struggles than you do? More importantly, why isn’t your partner sharing these frustrations, emotional struggles, or intimacy with you? This is a classic sign of micro-cheating.

6/6

Keeping certain people ‘around’

Micro-cheaters love keeping some people around. Just to be safe. They could be from their past, the ones who have great chemistry with them, or the ones who never fully left the picture. Staying in touch with someone with whom they clearly have a history is more than just friendship. This backup option often stems from the fear of losing ‘options’.
Micro-cheating is confusing because nothing looks ‘serious’ on the surface. And most of them may feel like ‘nothing’, until it stops being that.
