Leander ‘Legend’ Paes’ crores-worth Mumbai home is a living tennis museum blending Grand Slam glory with 176 bougainvillea blooms

Leander Paes is a legendary tennis player who has made India proud on numerous occasions. He is among the country’s greatest sporting icons and one of the most successful doubles tennis players in the history of the game. In his over 30 years career, Paes won 20 Grand Slam titles and holds the world record 7 Olympics. He won an Olympic bronze medal for India at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and became the first tennis player to compete in seven consecutive Olympic Games.

When he is not training youngsters, the tennis legend loves spending time at his Mumbai home which reflects a different side of his personality; calm, silent, nature-lover and artistic. The sportsman opened his house door for a close interview and house tour to Brut India.

Let’s have a look at his house:

Location and valuation

Set in Mumbai’s Bandra neighbourhood, his luxurious residence is estimated to be worth several crores considering the premium celebrity real estate market of Mumbai. Bandra is noted as the city’s most elite residential district because of its sea-facing apartments, culture, and celebrity presence. The locality offers a mix of privacy, connectivity and lifestyle amenities, making it one of Mumbai’s most sought-after real estate markets.

The terrace garden that defines the house

But what stands out here is the expansive terrace garden, home to some 176 colourful bougainvillaea bloom around the edges. In the interview, he explains the exact number 176 and says it is "Because my birthday is the 17th of June.” The outdoor area combines greenery, natural light and open-air seating spaces. Paes has often spoken about his love for plants and nature. In a city where outdoor private space is considered a luxury, the terrace becomes one of the home’s biggest real estate highlights.

Sporting history and memories

Paes’ residence is deeply personal. The interiors are all about tennis memories, the walls are filled with framed photographs, trophies and signed memorabilia. One of the premium features of the house is the curated trophy and memorabilia section displaying Grand Slam trophies, Olympic achievements and other collectibles.

Home or a living museum

The home is more of a living museum. There is so much of Indian sporting history, documenting his victories and also the journey. During the interview, Paes even showed his football jersey signed by football legend Pelé. Every section of the house tells a story of his life; childhood dreams, Olympic struggles and Grand Slam victories.

Interiors

The interiors themselves lean toward warm contemporary styling rather than excessive luxury. Neutral tones, large windows, natural lighting and wooden textures create an inviting atmosphere instead of a formal celebrity home.

Mumbai’s luxury real estate

The property also reflects a side of Mumbai luxury increasingly appreciated today: homes that prioritise wellness, greenery, individuality and emotional comfort over sheer extravagance. In an expensive city dominated by glass towers and compact layouts, Paes’ terrace-centric home feels unusually intimate and grounded.

A personal sanctuary

Even after retirement, Paes continues to inspire generations of Indian athletes. His Mumbai home tells the story behind that exact journey which is built on determination, hard work and and not just on trophies and fame.
