British publication The Independent has released its '
Happy List
2017'. Introduced in 2008, this list honours the top 50 people who make a positive difference to the UK with no thought of personal gain. Previous winners include celebrities like
JK Rowling and Sir
Tim Berners-Lee

The 2017 list also mentions two people of
Indian origin
- Dial Sharma and Nisha Kotecha.
85-year-old Dial Sharma has been helping the Asian community in North London in reducing isolation and helping them integrate better with the society for the last 50 years. He organises trips and get-togethers for the community as well as help with taxes, billing, spoken English, housing, and immigrations issues. Dial recently helped Asian women in gaining more independence by attending coffee mornings.
Nisha Kotecha founded a website aimed at celebrating positive stories, three years ago. Kotecha has been volunteering for various charities since last ten years. She created 'The Moments Journal' last year - a positivity log to help people see and appreciate the good things - big or small - from their day.
