Indian community in Missouri celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi

MISSOURI: Several people of Indian-origin celebrated the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi at the St. Louis Hindu Temple in Missouri on Sunday, September 3.

The

Mahatma Gandhi Center

was occupied by a large group of Marathi speakers, all of whom had travelled to St. Louis to celebrate the annual Ganeshotsav. The event was organized by St. Louis Marathi Mandal, a group dedicated to preserving and celebrating the cultural heritage of Maharashtra.

"Once again, it is time for us to get together as friends and families and welcome Lord Ganesh," read the group's website. "Let's kick off St. Louis Marathi Mandal's New Year by offering our prayers to Lord Ganesh."

The event featured a pooja, a potluck lunch, and a cultural program in which young artists performed five-minute long dances and skits(kathakathans).

The annual event proved to be successful, with over 70 people in attendance.
