The 24-year-old hockey player played his debut game at the London Olympics 2012. "It doesn’t matter to us whether the team lost the first game, what matters is that he was able to play; our boy is an Olympian now," says Sreejesh’s father Raveendran P V, from his home in Kizhakkambalam.

"It was a great moment for us to watch him on TV. All our neighbours too had their television tuned to the Olympics, even old ladies who had no clue what all this was about," says an extremely happy Raveendran. The family has had no connection to sports before this, what with Raveendran being a farmer. "It was always his dream to excel in hockey," says the proud dad. The family went through quite a struggle to fund Sreejesh’s sports ambitions initially. "But with sponsors stepping in, it got easier," says Raveendran.
"Forget Olympics, I didn't even dream of playing for India. The Kerala team is not a force to reckon with at the national level. So I never thought I will make it to the Indian team. But God has been kind to me," Sreejesh himself had told TOI earlier.
