From Bandhavgarh’s Bamera to Ranthambore’s Machli; 5 tigers in India to have a ‘celebrity’ status

The ‘International Tiger Day’ 2025 is the best time to remember some of the incredible tigers born in India who enjoyed ‘Celebrity’ status for several reasons. While all big cats are gorgeous in their own way, some of them left a mark because of their exceptional beauty, pride and playful nature. India, being the heart of tiger population, is home to over a 100 national parks, most of them known for their tiger wealth.

Today, we will tell you the story of five special tigers in India who lived the life of a celebrity. Read on:

Machli at Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan

Machli at Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan was born in 1997. The gorgeous tigress gained global attention after she killed a huge crocodile. She lived for 19 years and graced the jungles of Ranthambore with 11 cubs. The beauty left the world in 2016 leaving behind her kids and grandkids.

Collarwali at Pench National Park, Madhya Pradesh


Collarwali died recently in 2022 but before leaving the world, she had enjoyed a celebrity status thanks to some documentaries shot around her. She is also known as a supermom tigress as she birthed 29 cubs, which is the highest known for any tigress in India!

Munna at Kanha National Park, Madhya Pradesh

Munna is another famous tiger in India and the most famous at Kanha National Park. The tiger is noted for striking markings on his forehead. He is mostly spotted in the Kisli zone of the park and carries himself with great attitude. Unlike others, he easily comes in front of visitors.

Paarwali at Jim Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand

Paarwali is one of the most photographed tigresses in Jim Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand. Some of her pictures are absolutely famous. Photographers have shot her climbing trees which is a rare sight. She is graceful, and calm at the same time. She is often seen with her cubs in Dhikala region.

Bamera at Bandhavgarh National Park, Madhya Pradesh

Bamera was the son of the famous tigress Chakradhara. The tiger shot to fame for its massive size. He was the father of 15 cubs and was known for his calm presence. Unlike his male counterparts, Bamera was more balanced and calm. He also died in 2016.
