Mumbai soon to build a new Ferris wheel landmark 'Mumbai Eye'
Soon Mumbai will have its own Ferris wheel attraction, the ‘Mumbai Eye’, inspired by London’s iconic Ferris wheel. The thrilling new landmark is part of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) ambitious INR 74,427.41 crore budget for the fiscal year 2025-26. It also marks the largest budget in the city's history ever! The exciting news was shared by BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani on Tuesday.
More about the upcoming Mumbai Eye
The 'Mumbai Eye' will offer panoramic views of the city. The BMC is also expecting it to become a prime tourist attraction in Mumbai. The Ferris wheel will be built through a public-private partnership, although the specific location and budget details are still under consideration. The project is set to occupy an area of around two to three acres.
While the idea of a Ferris wheel in Mumbai was first suggested in 2008 by Shiv Sena leader Ravindra Waikar, it was the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (MMRDA) 2022 proposal for the Bandra Reclamation promenade that sparked renewed interest.
The wheel will have air-conditioned, sealed passenger capsules, providing visitors with a comfortable and unique experience as they take in the breathtaking views of Mumbai from above. This attraction is expected to become a major draw for both locals and tourists, enhancing the city’s skyline and offering a new way to experience Mumbai.
Alongside this project, the BMC budget emphasizes a citizen-centric approach, which Commissioner Gagrani described as a “vision for Mumbai's future.” The budget focuses on six key pillars: fiscal discipline and sustainability, infrastructure and service improvements, educational enhancement, a clean and sustainable environment, social welfare initiatives, and better governance. These priorities aim to create a more efficient, cleaner, and better city for residents.
This record-breaking budget reflects Mumbai’s ambitions to grow and modernize, offering new and innovative projects that will transform the city into an even more vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable place to live. The 'Mumbai Eye' is just one of many steps toward realising that vision.
About London’s Ferris wheel
The London Eye on the South Bank of the River Thames is a giant Ferris wheel offering stunning views of the city skyline. Standing 135 meters tall, it was completed in 2000 and quickly became a major tourist attraction, providing panoramic vistas of landmarks like Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, and St. Paul's Cathedral.

Improve the roads first, rather than building "Mumbai Eye". It seems that BMC has gone blind to the infrastructure needs of the Mumbaikars.Read allPost comment
