FIFA World Cup 2026: Which countries are hosting it? All host cities, dates and how to book tickets

Every four years, the FIFA World Cup reshapes the global sporting calendar, pulling entire nations into weeks of shared anticipation, heartbreak, and celebration. In 2026, football’s biggest tournament will return on a scale the world has never seen before. Bigger stadiums, more teams, more matches, and for the first time in history, a World Cup spread across three countries, and will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is set to redefine what a global sporting event looks like. After the unforgettable drama of Qatar 2022, where Argentina lifted the trophy, the tournament now moves back to the traditional June–July window, promising packed fan zones, cross-border travel, and a festival of football stretching across North America. Plan your travels now, and book your tickets.

2/8

Why the 2026 World Cup is historic

The 2026 tournament will be the first with 48 teams, up from the 32-team format that has been in place since 1998. That change also equates to more matches, more global representation, and new opportunities for up-and-coming football nations. It also means the tournament — in terms of both size and logistics — will be the biggest FIFA World Cup ever.
Another significant ‘first’ is the hosting model. The 2026 World Cup won’t be played in one nation, or even two. Instead it will be brought to you by three: Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

3/8

World Cup 2026 dates and key matches

The tournament will kick off on June 11, 2026, which will be returning to the classic summer schedule after Qatar’s winter edition. The final will be played on July 19, 2026, at the New York New Jersey Stadium, officially marking the climax of the world’s biggest football event.
Mexico will stage the opening match, continuing its deep historical ties with the World Cup, while the final in the New York–New Jersey region underscores the United States’ central role in hosting the tournament.

4/8

Host countries and cities

In total, 16 cities across the three nations will host matches.
Canada will welcome fans in:
Toronto
Vancouver
Mexico will host games in:
Guadalajara
Mexico City
Monterrey
The United States will stage the majority of matches across:
Atlanta
Boston
Dallas
Houston
Kansas City
Los Angeles
Miami
New York New Jersey
Philadelphia
San Francisco Bay Area
Seattle
This geographic spread allows fans to experience vastly different cultures, climates, and football atmospheres within a single World Cup.

5/8

Stadiums set to host the action

There will be 16 stadiums at the 2026 World Cup, the most since Korea–Japan in 2002. Iconic stadiums include Toronto Stadium, BC Place and Birth City Stadium in Canada; Mexico City Stadium, Estadio Guadalajara and Estadio Monterrey in Mexico; as well as major US stadiums in cities including Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami and New York New Jersey.
Many of these stadiums are already familiar to fans of the NFL and major international events, offering world-class infrastructure and massive seating capacity.

6/8

Who has qualified so far

Qualifying tournaments throughout FIFA’s six confederations are winding down, with 42 teams already qualified. In addition to the three co-hosts, confirmed teams include Argentina, Brazil, England, France, Germany, Spain, Japan, South Korea, Morocco, Senegal, and New Zealand, among others, making it a truly global competition.

7/8

How to book FIFA World Cup 2026 tickets

There is already record demand for tickets. FIFA said it received more than 500 million ticket requests in a 33-day application period, with applications from all of FIFA’s 211 member nations and territories, as Reuters reported.
All tickets are only available on the official FIFA website. In case of oversubscription, tickets are assigned via lottery, with fans receiving an email no earlier than February 5 to confirm if they’ve been successful. Unsuccessful applicants will still have opportunities during later sales phases, including final releases on a first-come, first-served basis.
FIFA also has an official resale and exchange platform where fans can purchase and resell tickets safely, following local regulations.

8/8

A truly global football moment

With three hosts, 48 teams, and an unprecedented level of fan interest, the FIFA World Cup 2026 is set to be more than just a competition, it’s a statement of football’s global reach. From sold-out stadiums in Mexico City to a grand finale in New Jersey, the countdown to football’s ultimate celebration is on.
