Kaziranga joins India’s top 5 tiger density hotspots; here are the five best tiger reserves to visit

Assam’s Kaziranga Tiger Reserve has secured its position as India’s third-highest tiger density hotspot, with 18.65 tigers per 100 square kilometers, trailing only Bandipur Tiger Reserve (19.83) in Karnataka, and Corbett National Park (19.56) in Uttarakhand. This is as per a 2024 report released on Global Tiger Day. In 2024, the reserve, spanning 1,307.49 sq. km, recorded 148 tigers, a notable rise from 104 in 2022. For those who are fascinated by tigers, maybe Kaziranga can be on your wildlife travel wish list this year.

Here are some of the tiger reserves in India with the highest tiger density. These are some of the prime destinations to spot the big cats in India.

Corbett Tiger Reserve is India’s first tiger reserve, established under Project Tiger, and has some of the most famous tigers. Also, Jim Corbett National Park is India’s oldest national park. The park’s diverse ecosystems, including riverine belts and grasslands, support a thriving tiger population. Check out the Dhikala zone.

Nagarhole Tiger Reserve, Karnataka

Located right next to Bandipur, Nagarhole’s dense forests and water bodies create an ideal habitat for tigers. It is one of best-managed reserves in India, and every visit promises something exciting, and memorable. Watch out for leopards too!

Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh

Known for its high tiger density, Bandhavgarh’s Vindhya hills and Tala zone offer excellent tiger sighting opportunities. Its mix of grasslands and forests supports a diverse prey base. Have you been to Bandhavgarh yet?
