Karnataka’s iconic luxury train, the Golden Chariot, is set to roll into Maharashtra for the first time, adding Mumbai and Aurangabad to its itinerary, as per a report published in Deccan Herald. (Times of India has not independently verified this information).
Operated by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) in collaboration with Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), this expansion aims to boost premium rail tourism by connecting two of Maharashtra’s most historic cities with South India’s cultural and natural heritage circuit.

When it comes to luxury rail travel, few experiences in India capture the imagination quite like the Golden Chariot. Operated by IRCTC in collaboration with the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), this luxury train offers travellers a chance to journey through South India in style and comfort.

Each coach bears the name of a powerful dynasty - Hoysala, Chalukya, or Vijayanagara, and its interiors mirror the grandeur of their time. There are intricately carved wooden panels, silk furnishings, and temple-style motifs that adorn the cabins.

The train’s 26 guest cabins are designed to provide the comfort of a premium hotel suite. The cabins come equipped with double or twin beds, private bathrooms with showers, writing desks, wardrobes, Wi-Fi, and individual climate control.

There are two elegant restaurants - Nala and Ruchi. They serve the best of regional and global flavours. The dining cars are adorned with fine detailing and soft ambient lighting. Guests can savour traditional South Indian delicacies such as Chettinad curries and Coorg-style preparations, as well as continental fare prepared by professional chefs.

Jewels of South (6 nights): This itinerary will take travellers through the culturally rich destinations like Mysuru, Hampi, Mahabalipuram, Thanjavur, Chettinad, Cochin, and Kumarakom.
Glimpses of Karnataka (3 nights): This is a shorter journey but lets travellers explore the best of Bengaluru, Bandipur, Mysuru, and Hampi. You don't want to miss this!
