White tigers in India: Top 6 zoos to see the majestic creature

Majestic, unusual, and irresistibly handsome, the white tiger is a metaphor for peace, harmony, and natural beauty. In its gleaming white fur, this animal has enchanted wildlife enthusiasts for decades. White tigers are not a distinct species but a genetic variation of the Bengal tiger. Here are 6 most popular zoos in India where you can observe them in all their regal splendour.

2/7

Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Garden, Lucknow

The Lucknow Zoo houses a male and female white tiger called Raghu and Radha, which allure people with their elegant white fur and black stripes. Their large, shaded enclosures provide a relaxed habitat, where one can watch them closely. The zoo also enlightens people regarding white tiger genetics and conservation of white tigers as an endangered species.

3/7

Nandankanan Zoo, Bhubaneswar

Nandankanan Zoo is famous for white tiger breeding and safari. It is also the first zoo to breed them in captivity. It provides a special white tiger safari, where the tourists move in jeeps through open jungle tracks to spot the white tigers in natural habitats. Conservation efforts of the zoo are directed towards protecting and augmenting the white tiger population.

4/7

Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, Mysuru

Mysuru Zoo is renowned for its white tigers, including famous tigresses Tara and Manya. It is one of the oldest zoos in India, dating back to 1892. It is well known for its conservation activities and animal care. The white tigers are kept in special enclosures, where people can wonder at their loveliness.

5/7

National Zoological Park, Delhi

Delhi Zoo has recently welcomed the arrival of three healthy white tiger cubs. The cubs were delivered by seven-year-old white tigress Sita and her partner Vijay. There are now 11 tigers in the zoo, two pairs of which are white tigers. These beautiful creatures can be seen by visitors and information about their conservation can be gained. This arrival of these cubs signifies the importance of white tiger breeding programs.

6/7

Shaheed Ashfaq Ullah Khan Zoological Park, Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur Zoo has a beautiful white tiger named Geeta, which attracts numerous visitors. The animal's elegant looks and movements make it a loved attraction. The zoo induces consciousness towards wildlife conservation and the necessity of preserving rare animals such as white tigers.

7/7

Kamla Nehru Zoological Garden, Ahmedabad

Kankaria Zoo in Ahmedabad has a special enclosure for white tigers, and a lot of tourists visit it. The zoo once kept Mahesh, a white tiger, who died in 2004, but now has new white tigers, such as a tigress from Nandankanan Zoo. The white tiger is still one of the primary attractions, reflecting the zoo's conservation zeal.
