Uttarakhand villages that are way more beautiful than you imagined!

Uttarakhand, known as ‘Devbhoomi’ or the ‘Abode of the Gods’, is located in the northern part of India. It is a beautiful state surrounded by the Himalayan ranges and infused with a spiritual aura and a rich cultural heritage. The state is noted for its scenic hill stations, pretty villages, numerous rivers, and the four most sacred Hindu temples (Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath), also known as Chotta Char Dham.

Munsiyari

Munsiyari in the Pithoragarh District of Uttarakhand is a starting point for many treks into the great Himalayan Mountain range. The hamlet is surrounded by the dreamy lakes of Maheshwari Kund and Thamri Kund and the Panchachuli peaks. This village gives the perfect view of the surrounding landscapes of Uttarakhand. Here, you can also find a rich variety of flora and fauna, and visitors who like adventurous activities can even hike to different spots like Maheshwari Kund for breathtaking views of the surroundings, Birthi Falls, and Nanda Devi Temple.

Mana

Mana is the last village of Uttarakhand, situated near the Indo‑Tibetan border. The Uttarakhand government has designated Mana as a “Tourism Village,” and it has also won the ‘Best Clean, Iconic Tourist Destination’ under the 2019 Swachh Bharat Mission. The village is also considered to have mythological significance, as it is believed that the Pandavas took this path on their final journey. Set on the banks of the Saraswati River, which flows into the Alaknanda River to form the Keshav Prayag, the village offers you a feeling of peace as if you are standing in paradise. There are a lot of trek‑worthy locations here, like the Vyas Gufa-where Ved Vyas composed the Mahabharata with the help of Lord Ganesha, Vasundhra Falls and the Tapt Kund.

Khirsu

Khirsu, located in the Pauri Garhwal district, is known for its lush and dense forests. It is the best location for people looking to unwind from their busy schedules. The village is filled with apple orchards and wildflowers of every kind. Khirsu is also an agricultural hub with a lot of terraced farms around. It offers a beautiful view of the Himalayan mountains around it, making it perfect for nature hikes or camping. It is also known for its diverse flora and fauna, bird watchers can spot a lot of different species of birds here, making it a captivating spot.

Chopta

Chopta is located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, covered in dense forests. It is known as the “Mini Switzerland of India” because of its natural beauty and scenic views. This village is also part of the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, as there is a variety of flora and fauna here. You can also trek from Chopta village to the famous Tungnath Temple, which is the highest Shiva temple in the world. While trekking to the temple, you will witness beautiful views, making a place in your heart. Chopta offers a unique blend of scenic views, trekking, as well as mythological places. This village is believed to be sacred, as Lord Rama, accompanied by his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana, stayed here during their exile in the forests.

Pangot

Pangot, situated in Kosiyakutoli tehsil of Nainital district in Uttarakhand, is known for its breathtaking surroundings and for its diverse bird population. Nature lovers can visit the Kilbury Bird Sanctuary early in the morning, where they will spot birds of all kinds: Forktails, Collared Grosbeaks, White‑throated Laughing Thrushes, Brown Wood‑Owls. The chirping birds make the sanctuary one of the best places to see in Pangot. The winter season is the best time to visit Pangot, as one can witness the slow, crisp winter mornings while the birds chirp around you.
