Top 7 tiger reserves in India ranked by sighting probability

Going on a tiger safari in India, and locking your eyes with the majestic animal, mostly depends on your luck. Will you see the elusive big cat or come back with just a camera roll full of deer? Those who have visited these places already know the answer. Fret not, as we have rounded up the top 7 tiger reserves in India where your chances of spotting the Royal Bengal Tiger can be pretty decent. These are the jungles where the tigers mostly show up, and might just help you earn the bragging rights for life.
However, it needs to be noted that spotting a tiger in the wild is 10% luck, 90% being in the right forest at the right time. So, here are some of the reserves where your best bets for turning “maybe” into a “definitely spotting” are actually quite high. If your luck still deceives you, remember the forests won’t disappoint you.

2/8

Bandhavgarh National Park, Madhya Pradesh

Sighting probability: High
This is one of those tiger reserves that rightly justifies its name. With the highest density of tigers in India, Bandhavgarh is where even the laziest tiger might strut out, and you get the opportunity for a photo op. Also, there are ancient ruins and forts that dot the landscape, making you feel like you have entered a real-life Jungle Book.

3/8

Ranthambhore National Park, Rajasthan

Sighting probability: High
You will often find Ranthambhore’s tigers lounging near old temples, crossing trails, or just peeking from behind the tall bushes. The dry landscape makes visibility a breeze, and sometimes a tough task. But nevertheless, the experience that you get here is something that will have a lasting impression on you.

4/8

Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra

Sighting probability: High
Tadoba can be regarded as the sleeper hit of tiger tourism, which is less touristy, but not without action. The core zone has wide open spaces and plenty of waterholes, perfect for tiger sightings. Apart from tiger spotting, keep your eyes open to spot sloth bears and leopards too.

5/8

Kanha National Park, Madhya Pradesh

Sighting probability: Moderate to high
This lush, sal forest is straight out of Kipling’s pages, and it’s also a solid bet for tiger sightings. The meadows are tiger hotspots, and the park is well-managed, making safaris smooth and structured. Plus, barasinghas (swamp deer) will be added to the photo gallery.

6/8

Jim Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand

Sighting probability: Moderate
India’s oldest national park is majestic but mysterious. The dense foliage makes tigers harder to spot, but sightings in zones like Dhikala and Bijrani are becoming more frequent. And if not a tiger, you might just see an elephant traffic jam.

7/8

Pench National Park, Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra

Sighting probability: Moderate
Pench offers a mix of thrilling chases and quiet ambushes. It’s for a reason why this place served as an inspiration for The Jungle Book. Bagheera and Baloo sightings aside, Pench is gaining a rep for consistent tiger action—especially in summer when they flock to watering holes.

8/8

Sundarbans Forest, West Bengal

Sighting probability: Low to moderate
Sundarbans tigers are stealthy swimmers and not your average forest dwellers. Spotting one here is like winning the jungle lottery, and yes what an experience you get! Even if you don’t see the striped ghost, the mangrove safari is one for the books.
