There are some gorgeous places in India which turn into a winter wonderland during peak winters and temperature goes below zero degrees. These places, where temperatures dip below freezing, offer a unique experience for adventurers and snow seekers.

On number one spot would be Dras. Not many must be aware of the fact that Dras is the second coldest inhabited place on Earth. Located in Jammu & Kashmir, the town is also known as the Gateway to Ladakh. During winter, temperatures often dip well below 0°C, sometimes reaching -40°C! Sounds cold, right! The region, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, sees heavy snowfall, making it one of the coldest inhabited places in India.

Kargil in Jammu & Kashmir is famous for its Kargil War. The region experiences extreme cold temperatures and can drop to as low as -30°C during peak winter season. The heavy snowfall blankets the region and offers mesmersing views of the Zanskar Range.

Leh, set at an altitude of 11,500 ft, is a winter paradise with temperatures plummeting below -20°C in peak seasons. The region is often covered with snow between October to March. The barren beauty of Leh looks absolutely otherworldly. The frozen monasteries and rivers are a sight to remember. The extreme cold and high altitude make it a challenging destination during the winter months.

Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh is known for its natural snow beauty and Tibetan Buddhist monasteries. During the winter months, temperatures here can go below -10°C, with snowfall turning the landscape into a white wonderland. The region is known for its serene environment and is often isolated by snow.

Auli is another premium ski resort in Uttarakhand that experiences temperatures below 0°C during the winter months. The temperature often falls to -10°C and creates a perfect environment for snow skiing. The region is surrounded by the mighty peaks of the Nanda Devi and Mana Parvat.
