Top 5 richest cities in India by GDP in 2025

In 2025, India’s economy expanded and metro regions across the country saw great innovation. These cities became the main contributors to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). As per economic estimates, the wealthiest cities by GDP reflect a combination of longstanding financial capitals and booming technology hubs. As per latest projection-based rankings compiled by Angel One, here are top 5 cities in India leading the GDP chart in India.

Mumbai (INR 25.73 lakh crore ($310 billion)

Mumbai is leading the chart. The financial capital of India, with a projected GDP of around INR 25.73 lakh crore in 2025, is the country’s main economic hub. The city is home to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and some major corporate headquarters. It is also Bollywood’s home. The city’s strategic location ensures continued investment and high turnover.

Some of the prominent attractions in the city include the iconic Gateway of India, the Marine Drive promenade, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), to name a few.

Delhi NCR (INR 24.37 lakh crore ($293.6 billion)

Delhi NCR (National Capital Region) is close behind Mumbai with an estimated GDP INR 24.37 lakh crore in 2025. The seat of national government, Delhi has a massive public sector activity. Besides, the city has a thriving IT sector, real estate, tourism, and healthcare services, making it a major economic hub.

Delhi’s prime places to visit include the India Gate, the Humayun’s Tomb, Akshardham Temple and Qutub Minar, to list a few.

Kolkata (INR 12.45 lakh crore ($150 billion)

Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, is on number three position on the list, making it among India’s richest cities by GDP with an approximate value of INR 12.45 lakh crore. The city’s economic contributions are quite significant. It is a prime trade and industrial centre and its strategic position to the Hooghly River and the Port of Kolkata adds to it.

Victoria Memorial, Howrah Bridge, and Dakshineswar Kali Temple are among the most prominent tourist attractions in Kolkata.

Bengaluru (INR 9.13–11.04 lakh crore (US$110 billion)

The “Silicon Valley of India,” Bengaluru is in fourth spot with an estimated GDP of around $110 billion in 2025. The city’s economic power is because of its IT and software services sector, which houses prime global tech firms and startups. Beyond technology, the city also has a strong presence in aerospace and electronics. There’s a pool of young talent in the city.

Some of the prime attractions here include Bangalore Palace, Lalbagh Botanical Garden, and Cubbon Park.

Chennai (INR 6.52–11.95 lakh crore (US$78.6 billion)

On the fifth spot is Chennai, with an estimated GDP of about $78.6 billion in 2025. Set on the southeastern coast, the city is a prime manufacturing hub, particularly for the automobile industry and the port infrastructure is among the largest in India, facilitating substantial trade and export activity. Kapaleeshwarar Temple, Marina Beach, and Fort St. George are some of the must-visit Chennai attractions.
