Top 5 largest countries in Asia by area; check India's position on the list

Spread accross almost a third of Earth’s body, Asia is a continent dotted with super countries. From Siberian plains to Himalayan ranges and golden deserts, no continent can match the vastness of Asia.

While Asia is the largest continent in the world map, it is also home to some of the biggest countries on Earth (in area). As per a report by World Atlas, the five largest countries in Asia are Russia, China, India, Kazakhstan, and Saudi Arabia, respectively.

India proudly claims its spot in the top five largest nations by area. All these countries are also absolutely rich in culture, ancient history, and natural beauty. From stunning Siberia to India, let’s have a look at 5 largest countries in Asia in area.

2/6

Russia – 13,100,000 sq. km

Russia, as far as the number is concerned, is the largest country in the world and in Asia too. Its land stretches across both Europe and Asia and the Asian part of Russia is mainly Siberia. The place is dotted with forests and mountains. Russia also borders major nations including China, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan. Despite its size, much of Siberia remains sparsely populated due to harsh climates.

3/6

China – 9,596,961 sq. km

Asia’s second largest nation is China which also happens to be one of the most populous in the world! The country is noted for some really age-old ancient civilizations. Some of the prime attractions in the country include iconic and globally famous landmarks including the Great Wall and the Forbidden City. It shares borders with 14 countries, more than any other nation in the world!

4/6

India – 3,287,263 sq. km

India stands on the third place on the list and is the seventh-largest country in the world by area. The country is famous worldwide for the Himalayas, Western Ghats, toy trains, national parks, tiger reserves and the Taj Mahal! India is also home to one of the world’s oldest civilizations. With over 1.4 billion people, it is the most populous democracy.

5/6

Kazakhstan – 2,455,034 sq. km

Kazakhstan ranks fourth on the list. This vast, landlocked nation in Central Asia shares its borders with Russia, China, and several neighbouring countries. Its diverse landscape stretches from arid deserts and endless steppes to sections of the mighty Ural Mountains. Blessed with abundant oil, gas, and mineral reserves, Kazakhstan’s economy is heavily resource-driven. Yet, despite being the world’s ninth-largest country by area, its population density remains strikingly low.

6/6

Saudi Arabia – 2,149,690 sq. km

On number five position is Saudi Arabia which is the largest country in the Middle East. Most of its land is covered by deserts making it the largest continuous sand desert in the world. It is the birthplace of Islam, home to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina. The country is globally significant for its oil reserves and energy exports.
