Santorini is one of the most iconic and breathtaking islands in Greece. The place is visited by thousands of tourists every year but this year, the tourism got hit severely after the place was rocked by a series of small earthquakes in February. However, as per latest update, Santorini has been declared safe and is now officially reopened to visitors.
While these quakes scared the tourists away and caused temporary disruptions, the island is now once again ready to welcome tourists.

Santorini safe to visit again

After experiencing a number of tremors, the Santorini government was scared that the tourism season could suffer badly. However, by the god’s grace no major damage was reported. The authorities have ensured that the island is safe for travellers once again. First cruise ship of the year: On Sunday, the Celestyal Discovery became the first cruise ship of the year. There were 1,700 passengers and the event also marked that tourism is back.

Santorini’s economy is highly dependent on the tourism sector. Every year, over 2.5 million people visit the island. The island, which is inhabited by nearly 20,000 residents, tourism is a lifeline. Local businesses are once again happy to see tourists returning to the iconic island.

Reopening with Cruise

For those who don’t know, Santorini was struck by an unusual series of small earthquakes. This had caused authorities to shut schools, stop construction, and tourism here. Emergency teams and services were dispatched. Despite the disruption, Santorini's prominent attractions, such as the cliff-top sunsets and pretty hamlets, remain safe and the same!

No major damage Santorini

Despite the shaky earthquakes, the government has not reported any major damage to its infrastructure. Local authorities have also assured travellers that the island is now safe and ready to host them after the quakes. However, they have also set up an evacuation port to make sure that in case of any further seismic activity, tourists can make a quick exit.

While Santorini is back on the map for tourists, it will take some time to fully recover. However, the island is once again regaining its charm, and visitors can enjoy the warm Greek hospitality.
