MS Dhoni calls this city his home: "There's no good reason for me to work, to shift to any other city"

Even after reaching great heights and being one of India's best cricketers and a world-famous sports personality, MS Dhoni still has a deep connection with Ranchi, the city from where his story began. In an interview with Curly Tales, MS Dhoni talked about his feelings for Ranchi and why he never had to move to another city.
These are not just personal choices, but matters of identity, nostalgia, comfort, and belonging that cannot be gained by success.

2/6

Ranchi gave him identity and character

MS Dhoni has often shared that Ranchi is far more than just his birthplace—it is the place that shaped him into the person he is today. It was here that he spent his childhood, absorbed important life lessons, and built the grounded personality admired by millions. For Dhoni, Ranchi remains deeply meaningful, offering a strong connection to his roots and a constant reminder of where his journey began.

3/6

He never found a strong reason to leave

In the conversation with Curly Tales, Dhoni recollected that in the year 2005, one of the seniors in cricket asked him what plans he had of leaving Ranchi. His answer was simple and honest—he saw no real reason to shift to another city. He felt that Ranchi provided him with everything he wanted and needed, and he did not think about moving to other places at all.

4/6

City provides comfort and accessibility

One more important aspect of living in Ranchi that Dhoni mentioned during the interview with Curly Tales is that Ranchi has an airport with flights to major hubs like Delhi and Mumbai, allowing him to travel easily whenever work demanded it. It allows him to stay in Ranchi and travel to other Indian cities on his way to achieving his dreams. In addition to this, Dhoni praised the weather conditions in Ranchi, adding that they provide him with comfort.

5/6

He shares a personal journey with the city

One of the most touching comments by Dhoni has been that Ranchi saw him grow and he has seen Ranchi grow too. This was very poignant since it talked about the connection between an individual and his or her native place. He also commented on how Ranchi holds all corners of his heart, and this comes after many years of connection. It is more than just a place to him; it is a place that holds all the stories and milestones of his life.

6/6

Ranchi feels like home from the very moment of arrival

Maybe the most emotional comment has come from Dhoni when he stated that even before getting off the airport or reaching home, he has already felt that he has come back home. This is because Ranchi holds so much in terms of memories from his early age to the days of schooling. All this is what makes Ranchi a special place that cannot be replaced with anything luxurious.
