Kerala’s Eravikulam National Park to reopen on April 1: Everything wildlife lovers should know

Eravikulam National Park in Munnar is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Kerala, which is now set to reopen on April 1, 2025. The park is a paradise for wildlife lovers and photography enthusiasts. Not many must be aware of the fact that the park is noted for being home to endangered Nilgiri Tahr. The best part is those planning to visit the park will get to witness cute little newborn Tahrs.
For those who don’t know, it is also Kerala’s first eco-friendly, disabled-accessible ecotourism destination. On this note, let’s have a look at 5 interesting facts about this wildlife paradise:

2/6

Home to endangered Nilgiri Tahr

Eravikulam National Park is all about stunning landscape and the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, a cute mountain goat native to the Western Ghats. The park was shut for the calving season (between February and March) to protect the newborns. But now travellers will get a chance to witness adorable baby Tahrs in their natural habitat. After April 20, the government will count the population of these babies. Last year, the number was 144 babies and 825 Tahrs.

Eco-tourism and disabled-friendly

Eravikulam National Park is Kerala’s first fully disabled-friendly ecotourism destination and is also a carbon-negative park. It is also designed to be accessible to everyone, ensuring that all wildlife lovers can enjoy the beauty of the park, including its diverse flora and fauna.

4/6

Best time to visit

The best time to visit this park is during the summer months between April and May. The weather is perfect for outdoor exploration, and it’s easier to spot wildlife as they emerge from the cooler, denser areas. However, after May, the monsoon season brings restrictions due to heavy rainfall.

How to book tickets

Those who wish to book tickets online can do that through the official website. The entry fee for Indians is INR 200, while foreign nationals are charged INR 500. You can also reserve tickets in advance for an additional fee of INR 50 at Munnar’s Information Centre reservation counter, open from 9 AM to 3 PM. The park opens at 8 AM and closes by 4 PM.

Stunning beauty

The park is a must-visit for wildlife and nature lovers. Whether you’re interested in observing the Nilgiri Tahr or admiring the stunning neelakurinji flowers that bloom every 12 years, Eravikulam promises a memorable wildlife experience.
