Flying Taxis? Yes, Dubai will soon have these magical vehicles; 7 interesting facts to know

Let’s accept that while stuck in traffic, we’ve all wondered at least once a day in the future when we could fly from one place to another locally! Like from our house to direct our workplace instead of wasting hours in traffic jams. Well, Dubai has announced that it will launch, (likely by 2026), a citywide flying taxi service. The Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai has done a collaboration with Joby Aviation, and recently, they have also conducted a successful test flight.

Shocking and unbelievable right? Seems like dreams are starting to turn into reality.

Let’s know some interesting facts about the flying taxis of Dubai:

High-speed travel

These taxis will be the first of their kind on the planet and will accommodate up to four passengers. The air taxis will be equipped with six propellers and four battery packs, and the speed will go up to 300 km/hr and will cover approximately 160 km on a single charge.

Cut down travel time significantly

Since it has high speed, the duration of your destination will be cut down greatly. It is being considered that it will only take 10–12 minutes in the air for rides from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah, which is mostly a 45-minute road journey.

Eco-friendly, Zero emissions

Another best part of flying taxis is that these are powered fully by electricity, which means they will have zero impact on the environment. They will also work on a noise level of around 45 decibels, which is a lot quieter than a helicopter. This is the most promising feature of the taxis, as this will greatly reduce the pollution level since it is fully sustainable.

Pilotless taxis

Now don’t be afraid! These taxis are being designed in a way that they will be driven by an automated system and artificial intelligence. Although initially, they will be monitored by a human to ensure the safety of the passengers.

The Vertiports

The flying taxi spots in Dubai will be known as vertiports and will connect four areas of Dubai: Dubai International Airport, Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, and Palm Jumeirah. It is being considered that the vertiports will have four stands for aerial taxis and two landing areas, which will be connected to metro stations.

A blend of two

The designs show that the flying taxis will be a blend of a drone and a helicopter. They will look like a cross between a drone and a helicopter — a sleek and modern look. These taxis are being managed by Skyports and Joby Aviation with RTA planning.

Premium to public use

Initially, it is being said that the flying taxis will be reserved for high-end clients looking for premium travel, and gradually it will open up to the general public with more accessible prices and change the future of the city. They will mainstream air taxis rather than road travel in the future.
