8 places to visit from Delhi/NCR during the Durga Puja long weekend

Durga Puja long weekend is almost here, and those in Delhi/NCR or will be in this part of the country, they can go pandal-hopping, bhog-hogging, and also plan a quick trip nearby if they want. Instead of following the usual getaways in Himachal or Uttarakhand, take the road less traveled. Here, we list some of the places that promise a festive break minus the cliché, and where visitors can surely slay the long-weekend planning game.

2/9

Jaipur

Only about 5–6 hours from Delhi, Jaipur is perfect for a splash of royal vibes with festive spirit. Some of the must do things in less time are wander through the Amer Fort, pose at Hawa Mahal, and try ghewar too. Don’t miss the night bazaars, because shopping in the Pink City feels like therapy, minus the guilt.

3/9

Pushkar

Pushkar is that eccentric alternative of Rajasthan that never sticks to the rules. With its holy lake, colorful ghats, and hippie cafes, this town is pure quirk. During the festive season, the vibe is electric, where live music, rooftop chai, and sunsets so dramatic will keep visitors hooked. It’s a perfect place to “find yourself” without losing your wallet.

4/9

Haridwar

Those who don’t want to miss the spiritual vibe, Haridwar, perched on the banks of the sacred Ganga, can be the apt choice. Known as the “Gateway to the Gods,” this ancient city draws pilgrims and travelers alike in large numbers. The evening Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri is the prime highlight of this place, with chants, fire lamps, and the river shimmering in devotion. Wander through bustling bazaars for rudraksha beads, ayurvedic herbs, and jalebis dripping with syrupy joy. For a quieter moment, take a dip in the Ganga or escape to nearby Rajaji National Park.

5/9

Agra

Yes, yes, the Taj Mahal is the highlight of this place, but Agra has way more to offer. Agra Fort, Mehtab Bagh, and Mughlai feasts are something that Agra serves the best. Also, an interesting thing is one can literally do a 2-day Agra binge and be back in Delhi before Monday’s meeting. Perfect for those who want quick but memorable.

6/9

Mathura-Vrindavan

If Durga Puja is about divine celebrations, then Mathura and Vrindavan will double the dose. Temples here are alive with music, colors, and an unmatched spiritual buzz. The ghats of Yamuna at dawn are goosebump material, and the pedas of Mathura? Just delicious.

7/9

Bikaner

For something different, head west. Bikaner is known for its desert landscapes, intricate havelis, and that fort that looks straight out of a Bollywood set. But honestly, the real reason to go is the food: kachoris, bhujias, and sweets that will make anyone go crazy for sure.

8/9

Gwalior

Gwalior Fort is so massive it might make Hogwarts feel. Add in the stunning Jai Vilas Palace and Tansen’s tomb, and visitors will get a weekend of history, music, and royalty. And since Gwalior is not on the usual long-weekend hit list, you’ll need a little bit of planning for this.

9/9

Mount Abu

Longing for a hill station break? Visit Mount Abu, the lone hill station of Rajasthan. Nestled in the lush Aravalli ranges, it offers a refreshing escape from the desert heat. Explore the serene Nakki Lake, take a stroll through vibrant local markets, or admire the intricate architecture of the Dilwara Temples, you will love every bit of it.
