6 hill stations in South India that are pure magic after monsoons

After monsoons, nature is at its best. The lush greenery all around, along with misty landscapes and the cold breeze hitting your face, it’s just the perfect time to visit hill stations, especially in South India, as they will definitely enchant you with their beauty.

2/8

Hills in South

The hills of South India transform into lush green havens, with cascading waterfalls crafting a serene ambiance. Here are some must-visit hill stations in the South that shine after the monsoon season:

3/8

Munnar, Kerala

This is a tranquil hill station located in the Idukki district of Kerala. The iconic tea estates here, along with the hills, turn vibrant green post monsoon. After monsoon, the rivers here also flow with even more energy as they are swelled with water, like Mudrapuzha and Kundala. One should definitely visit the Eravikulam National Park, as it gets even more beautiful after rain and is also home to the endangered species Nilgiri tahr and the rare Neelakurinji flower, which blooms once every twelve years. The air here seems even more fresh after the monsoon and brings you calm and peace.

4/8

Vagamon, Kerala

Vagamon, a serene hill station in Kerala, spans Peerumedu Taluk of Idukki district and Meenachil and Kanjirappally taluks of Kottayam district. Known for its rolling grasslands, pine valleys, and refreshing post-monsoon air, it offers stunning sights like the Vagamon Bridge overlooking fog-covered valleys. During the monsoon, pine leaves glisten, meadows turn lush, and gardens burst into bloom, bringing life to scenic spots like Mottakkunnu and Palozhukum Para. With temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C, the season is cool, vibrant, and refreshing—making Vagamon a distinctive alternative to other monsoon destinations in India.

5/8

Paithalmala, Kerala

This is a serene hill station located in the Kannur district. It is one of the highest peaks in Kannur district. This spectacular spot sits nestled in the Western Ghats on the Kerala-Karnataka border near the Kodagu forests. This is a trekker’s paradise as well, as two trekking routes can be taken to Paithalmala which cover many of the well-known locations like the Ezharakundu Waterfalls and the valleys of Coorg. This is a secluded spot, perfect for those people who want to escape from the chaos of their daily life and surround themselves in the beauty of Kerala.

6/8

Agumbe, Karnataka

This place is located on a mountain pass that connects the plains of Karnataka and the coastal region. This place is surrounded with lush green forests, flowing streams and falls that make the region look like the Garden of Eden. This place is also known as the “Cherrapunji of South India.” Witnessing the sunset from this location is a must, as it is just breathtaking. One can visit waterfalls nearby to Agumbe that are beautifully cascading, such as Barkana Falls, Jogi Gundi Waterfalls and Onake Abbi Falls. A lot of treks are also organised here post monsoon, on which you might spot some rare species of snakes, frogs, insects and other wild fauna and flora. What is even more unique about this place is that some scenes of the Malgudi Days were shot here, so you can even go down the memory lane while you’re here.

7/8

Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu

This place is located in Tamil Nadu and is also known as “the Princess of the Hills.” The hill station is surrounded with lush green forests and is renowned for its star-shaped, man-made Kodaikanal Lake, which looks absolutely divine. The temperature here mostly stays between 10 to 18 degrees Celsius, making it a perfect destination for those seeking peace and tranquillity. After rains, the place gets all misty, which makes it look unexpectedly beautiful. Post monsoons are considered the best time to travel to Kodaikanal as everything is misty and seems alive. There are several amazing scenic points in Kodaikanal, including Green Valley View, also called the Suicide Point, Pillar Rocks, Berijam Lake, Dolphin’s Nose, Coaker’s Walk and Bryant Park, where one can just sit and enjoy nature.

8/8

Coorg (Kodagu), Karnataka

Coorg turns into a green paradise after monsoon. The waterfalls are swelled with water and cascade down with rapidity, the landscapes are even more green and the weather is cool and pleasant, perfect to visit famous places here or go for a trek. This serene hill station offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and historical charm. In the post-monsoon months, the air of Coorg also becomes spice-scented because of the coffee and spice estates here, making it a traveller’s dreamy escape to remember always and forever.
