Meet the tallest tennis players of all time

Wimbledon 2025 isn't just about strawberries, grass courts, and posh crowds—it was also a stage where tennis giants, literally and figuratively, made waves. While the final showdown featured the blazing speed and finesse of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, fans couldn’t help but notice how the towering titans of the sport have shaped modern tennis. Players like Reilly Opelka (6'11") and John Isner (6'10") may not have made this year’s final cut, but their monster serves and net presence have changed the game forever.

These skyscrapers of tennis—Opelka, Ivo Karlović, Kevin Anderson, and more—have redefined what power means on court. With serves topping 150 mph and wingspans that could block a small plane, their matches are part tennis, part artillery showcase. Sure, Wimbledon still loves a classic rally, but tall players have shown that height is a serious weapon in grass-court warfare.

Even if the current finalists aren't the tallest, the impact of these towering players looms large. Whether it’s Karlović’s ace count or Isner’s marathon match legacy, the giants have left their mark. Wimbledon 2025 may be about agility and speed, but the echoes of tennis’s tallest titans still rumble through Centre Court.

2/11

Ivo Karlović (6'11")

Croatian legend Ivo Karlović is the undisputed giant of tennis—standing 6′11″ and famed for his serve that once hit 156 mph. Nicknamed “Dr. Ivo” for his surgical precision at the net, he racked up eight ATP singles titles and dominated aces with 13,728 in his career. He held the fastest recorded serve until John Isner broke it, and spent much of 2007–2016 tormenting opponents with that towering frame. Even in his 40s, he was still knocking down aces. Karlović showed that being that tall isn’t just about stature—it’s about turning your height into your power on court.

3/11

Reilly Opelka (6'11")

America’s towering hope, Opelka shares the height crown with Karlović at 6′11″. He burst onto the professional scene winning junior Wimbledon in 2015, boasts four ATP singles titles, and can serve at over 140 mph. Injuries slowed him lately, but his upset of Djokovic at the 2025 Brisbane International proved he's still a force. With a career-high ranking of No. 17 and a fashion sense to match, Opelka is more than just tall—he’s got staying power.

4/11

John Isner (6'10")

The king of marathon matches, Isner stands at a lofty 6′10″. You probably remember his 11-hour Wimbledon epic against Nicolas Mahut in 2010. Beyond drama, he’s racked up 15 ATP titles and holds the all-time ace record in the open era with around 14,470 aces. His serve once hit 157.2 mph—bar. Isner’s game has always been about using his massive height to unload insane serves and dominate from the baseline.

5/11

Kevin Anderson (6'8")

This South African powerhouse reached two Grand Slam finals—2017 US Open and 2018 Wimbledon—thanks to his towering 6′8″ frame. He cracked the top five in the world, won seven ATP titles, and became the tallest player ever to reach a major final. Anderson’s height gave him a booming serve and great reach, and even after retiring in 2022, he made a comeback in 2023. His return shows that tall can be timeless.

6/11

Jerzy Janowicz (6'8″)

The Polish phenom, Janowicz hit the Wimbledon headlines in 2013 by becoming the first Polish man to make a Grand Slam semifinal. With a serving motion that’s part sculpture and part assault, he could pop serves at 130–140 mph . Though he never claimed an ATP tour singles title, he reached world No. 14 and remains a fan favorite for his fearless, risk-taking game.

7/11

Dick Norman (6'8")

Belgian lefty Norman was a staple on the doubles scene and surprising singles contender, standing 6′8″ . He had a 22-year career, climbing to No. 85 in singles and breaking into the doubles finals at the ATP Finals at age 39. Known for his power and fight, he retired in 2013 and later became a tournament director—classic tall tennis hero turned mentor.

8/11

Chris Guccione (6'7″)

Australia’s Guccione used his 6′7″ reach to dominate doubles, snagging five ATP doubles titles. He also played singles with power and flair, reaching a career-high No. 67 in 2008. His serve-and-volley style harkens back to classical Aussie tennis, and he was a Davis Cup regular. Tall, stylish, and well-rounded.

9/11

Marc Rosset (6'7″)

The Swiss giant won Olympic gold in 1992 and a French Open doubles title that same year, all while standing 6′7″ . Rosset combined height, power, and Olympic calm to shine in big moments. His booming serve and aggressive style made him a Swiss tennis icon.

10/11

Sam Querrey (6'6″)

Querrey brought American muscle to the court. At 6′6″, he notched 10 ATP singles titles, reached world No. 11, and once served 10 consecutive aces in a match—yep, ten in a row. He made the 2017 Wimbledon semifinals, shocking top seed Andy Murray along the way. Querrey’s smooth lefty serve and big forehands made him a dangerous draw in any tournament.

11/11

Juan Martín del Potro (6'6″)

“The Tower of Tandil,” a massive force at 6′6″, won the 2009 US Open by slaying both Nadal and Federer . He earned 22 ATP titles, an Olympic bronze and silver, and guided Argentina to a Davis Cup title in 2016. Though injuries slowed him later, del Potro’s booming forehand and noble spirit made him a legend and one of tennis's tallest champions in every sense.
