Why Sadhguru says your first 5 minutes after waking up decide your entire day

Why Sadhguru says your first 5 minutes after waking up decide your entire day

Sadhguru believes that the moment you open your eyes is not just the start of another routine, it is the foundation of your entire day. According to him, your mental and emotional state in those first few minutes quietly influences how your day goes. Your mindset at the time of awakening influences your thoughts, actions, and reactions for the remainder of the day subtly. In case your mind awakens in chaos, it will stay in it for the rest of the day.

Your mind is the most receptive when you wake up

The first few moments following sleep are when the mind is in its calmer and quieter state. Thus, whatever it receives in that period becomes imprinted on it. Whether it be stressful thoughts or awareness, the moment you awake your mind is ready to receive them both, but you are responsible for what it chooses to receive.

3/7

Hastiness at the beginning means reactivity for the rest of the day

Getting out of bed in a rush, reacting to alarm bells, or immediately getting caught up in notification messages can put your organism in a stressful mode. As per Sadhguru, if you start your day in this manner, then you react to what happens instead of choosing your experience. Such an approach will most likely lead to irritation, inability to concentrate on work, and other stresses during the day.

4/7

Awareness in the morning helps bring stability to the mind

Even simple activities such as awakening gradually, becoming aware of your breathing process, and simply being mindful of being alive can have a positive effect. In fact, through this practice, you align yourself both physically and mentally and approach the rest of the day calmly.

5/7

It all starts from how you feel in the morning

One of the easiest things to do, according to Sadhguru, is to wake up and smile consciously. In several of his YouTube videos, he has opened up about the importance of being optimistic and dealing with everything with a smile. According to him, you should not try to make yourself positive; however, it is possible to recognise the fact of being alive, to appreciate this moment, and thus set a good emotional tone.

6/7

Small actions, large implications

What is being advocated here is not adherence to a complex routine but bringing consciousness into some small but impactful habits such as leaving your smartphone aside for at least the first couple of minutes, waking your body up slowly, or sitting in silence before commencing your activities. Small gestures everyday can make big changes in your life.

7/7

Consciousness over automation

Ultimately, this lesson is all about moving from a state of being driven by mechanical, almost unconscious responses towards an awake, more deliberate approach. When you gain control over how your morning starts, you ultimately gain control over your whole life.
