Background

Katie Ledecky is an American swimmer who was born in Washington D.C on March 17, 1997. Ledecky began swimming at the age of six years due to the influence of her older brother, Michael, and her mother, who used to swim for the University of New Mexico. She finished her high school career as the holder of the Stone Ridge school record in every swimming event except for the 100-meter breaststroke.

Training

During 2012, she trained with the Nation's Capital Swim Club under coach Yuri Suguiyama. Following which she trained under coach Bruce Gemmell for the 2016 Olympics. After she accepted an athletic scholarship to Stanford University she was trained by coach Greg Meehan.

Achievements

She has won six Olympic gold medals and 15 world championship gold medals. This is the most in history for a female swimmer. She is also known as the greatest female swimmer of all time. She is also the world record holder in the women's 400-, 800-, and 1500-meter freestyle. She also holds the title of fastest-ever in the women's 500-, 1000-, 1500, and 1650-yard freestyle events.

Ledecky has received awards at the Olympics and World Aquatics Championships. She has also received other awards like the World Swimmer of the Year Award in the years 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, the American Swimmer of the Year Award in the years 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, FINA Swimmer of the Year in 2013, Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year: 2017 to name a few.
