Amid the pandemic, filmmakers from around the world have set out to present their unique lockdown stories. Malhaar Virtual Film Festival recently received over 400 entries from more than 22 countries. “Sharing lockdown experiences through short films has actually brought us closer,” says actor
Rajit Kapoor, who curated the short films along with actors
Neeraj Kabi and
Adil Hussain. Filmmakers Aditya Kripalani and Gautam Vaze and cinematographer Ajayan Vincent were also among those who handpicked the intriguing narratives, shot in over 12 languages.
During these turbulent times, many had to confront their deep-rooted emotions. And while some found positivity during these times of profound soul-searching, there were those who explored the depths of distress. Professional and amateur artistes, who had the vision and insight to document such experiences while in lockdown, submitted their entries in both fiction and non-fiction categories. In less than 30 minutes, filmmakers and content creators have tried to convey their emotions and observations revolving around the theme. “The most amazing part of watching these films while shortlisting them was to go deeper into these observations, and realise that we all are truly one globe, one human race, one humanity and one planet,” shares Neeraj.
The shortlisted films will be streamed from September 18 to 20 and re-run from September 25 to 27 for a global audience spread over three time zones. During the festival, an interactive Q&A session will also be held with the filmmakers and actors.
