The Indian Meteorological Department recently issued a special bulletin, warning the public about the severity of the heat wave in various parts of the country with a special emphasis on Karnataka. Posting on X, IMD said, “Heat wave conditions are very likely at isolated pockets of North Interior Karnataka till April 6, 2024.” However, while the IMD has also predicted light rainfall over Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Bidar, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Mandya and Mysuru, on Saturday and Sunday, there is no respite in sight for people living in Bengaluru.

Stay safe from heat stroke
Speaking about the need to spot the symptoms of dehydration or a heat stroke, Ananya Bhowmik, clinical nutritionist, and wellness consultant, said, “Sudden reeling of head, urge to throw up, loose motion, muscle cramps are all signs of dehydration. Medical help must be sought.
Ways to beat the heat
  • Hydrate with water, natural cooler like coconut water, butter milk and fruit juices
  • Avoid sudden change in temperatures
  • Eat seasonal vegetables and fruits
  • Stick to light-coloured cotton clothes
  • Use umbrella and sunglasses
  • Minimise caffeine intake — Ananya Bhowmik, clinical nutritionist and wellness consultant
