Do you too have the smart phone pinky syndrome?
The lockdown has made our relationship with our smartphones stronger. The average time which a person used to spend on the device has increased rapidly. Right from editing those excels on the app to ordering the groceries online the smartphone is capable of doing of everything. But apart from all this the smartphone is also capable of hurting our pinky finger.
What is the pinky syndrome?
The pinky finger which is the last finger in the hand and the most sensitive one. It is the one which holds the weight of the smartphone. And now that those hours have increased the little finger is under immense pressure. The pinky finger of the dominant hand bends because it loses its energy to hold the Smartphone any further and thus starts to pain and feeling numb.
Can lead to finger damage too!
As most of the work is done on phones the fingers are under a lot of stress due to the repetitive movements. This can lead to hyper mobility and osteoarthritis in which the stress increases and degeneration happens in the finger joints. Which can further leads to deformation of finger.
So this is what can be done…
-The swipe feature is that one great feature which allows the smooth functioning of the fingers. Rather than typing its fun to slide through them. It takes some time to master the feature but once you get a hang of it then there is no stopping.
-While the long messages can be limited to the short ones. But when it doesn’t work then the speech to text feature too comes in handy. Don’t forget to properly proof read because errors in this case is common and above all what is better than a phone call?
-OTT platforms have become our best friends so rather than binge watching the series with the phone in our hand one can opt for a stand or else make a makeshift one too.
-Give those fingers a break! Stretch and pull them to relieve the tension. Dipping them into lukewarm or cold water too counts.
-Divide the work between the two hands and give equal chance to the two of them to hold the phone.
-Try using the computers and laptops more for work or attending classes.
This is where the pinky finger has an important role
Pinky wear ritual- The famous pinky promise is something we have been doing since childhood where the two pinkies are touched which signifies a promise.
The shaka sign- In this the middle three finger are folded and the thumb and the pinky are held out. In places like Hawaii this gesture means hello, good bye, take care, good luck and hang loose etc.
The corna- In this the index finger and the pinky finger point up while the remaining ones are held under the thumb finger. In South America this goes for saving oneself from a bad mojo, while in Italy or Spain you point this towards a man who might beat you and its also for the fans of heavy metal music.
