Brits are naming their vehicles after royalty, sportstars and popstars A recent UK survey says that Britons give their cars nicknames after celebrities ranging from Prince William to Lady Gaga along with Rooney, Beckham and Angelina Jolie among others. Traditional names like Betty and Bob made up the top three. Twenty four per cent admitted they had named their cars after celebrities.

Top names include comedian Alan Carr, Kate Middleton, actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and ‘Boris’, after London mayor Boris Johnson.
In the study of 3,000 drivers aged 17 to 45, 43 per cent said they thought it was ‘perfectly normal’ to have a pet name for a vehicle. Three-quarters said they were most likely to name their first car. However, one in five said they are too embarrassed to admit to others that they have named their car; the same number said those who do, are ‘sad’.
