Why do churches ring bells at specific hours (Angelus), not just during services

Church bells are the most recognizable sound of Christian tradition. The Angelus is a short prayer that Christian, especially Catholics, offer three times a day, and the name Angelus, comes from the Latin word meaning "angel", because the prayer begins with these words "The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary."

This practice dates back to middle ages around the 13th entury. At this time, the monks and the preisst would ring bells in the evening to remind people to pray. These bells helped call everyone to remember the moment when the angel Gabriel told Mary that she would be the mother of Jesus, also known as the Annunciation.
