A new day

Waking up is a symbol of our transition into a new day. And a new day is like a blank canvas that we colour according to our will. It is a transition from dreams to consciousness and a moment of awakening not only of the body but also of the mind and spirit. As we wake up from our deep sleep, our actions and the way we start our day set our aspirations and intentions for the day. And this very transition is an opportunity for renewal, a chance to leave behind the past and look forward to the possibilities of the present moment.

Looking at your hands

Our scriptures provide us with a plethora of wisdom, and guide us on the right paths. From the important mantras that are chanted during meditation, to the ones that should be chanted upon waking up. The simple act of looking at your hands while you chant a mantra can really set the right tone and positive attitude for the day.

Lakshmi Ji resides in fingers

Mantra - Karagre Vaste Lakshmi, Karmadhye Saraswati, Karmule tu Govinda, Prabhate Kardarshanam.

In Hindu scriptures, Goddess Lakshmi is the embodiment of wealth, prosperity, and abundance in a devotee’s life. According to the mantra, ‘karage vaste lakshmi’ means that the divine presence of Lakshmi ji resides in the fingers of our hands. Each finger represents a different aspect of wealth, be it material riches, spiritual abundance, or emotional well-being. By looking on your fingers first thing while waking up, it helps invoke the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi and invite abundance into our lives.

Saraswati ji in the palms

Saraswati ji, the goddess of knowledge, wisdom, and learning, is another deity whose presence we should acknowledge upon waking up. According to the ancient scriptures, Saraswati Ji is said to reside in the palms of our hands and the words of ‘Karamadhye Saraswati’ describe just that. Our palms, with their lines and creases, symbolise the path of knowledge and wisdom that we wish to have in our lives. By acknowledging the presence of Saraswati ji in our palms, we ask for her guidance and blessings.

5/6

Govinda in the lower hand

Govinda, another name for Shri Krishna, holds a special place in the hearts of people. Shri Krishna is the one who is full of love, compassion, and divine grace. According to the mantra, the lower side of our hands is associated with Govinda. By focusing on the lower side of our hands upon waking, we pay our respect to the divine presence of Govinda and seek his protection and guidance.

Remembering Gods first in the morning

The importance of remembering the gods as soon as we wake up is very important and can set the right tone for the day ahead. By remembering their names and asking them to look over you, devotees can invoke their divine presence first thing in the morning. Chanting a mantra, sitting in peace, and just peacefully meditating on the lord’s name helps set the tone for the day ahead and align with the higher forces. As we go about our daily activities, we carry with us the blessings of the gods, guiding us on righteousness and spiritual ways.
