Ganesh Chaturthi, a festival that is a powerful opportunity to invite peace, abundance and wisdom into your life. Yet, most people miss out on Lord Ganesha’s true blessings by overlooking essential rituals and chanting proper mantras. When celebrated with right intention and rituals, this sacred festival can help clear obstacles in life, unlocking possibilities and positivity into one’s life. Shubh Mahurat

Shubh mahurat is a particular time frame in which the spiritual energy is the highest, and all the subh karya (positive practices) should take place. This year on Aug 27, 2025, the shubh mahurat to welcome Ganesha with sankalp is between 11:36 AM to 12:24 PM (according to Drik Panchang)
This small 48-minute window is the ideal time for sthapana, the time when Lord Ganesha is the most receptive of all our prayers. Our Vedic astrology and ancient scriptures emphasise on the importance of timing because certain planetary positions amplify positivity, peace and connection to the divine.

What practices to be followed while worshipping Lord Ganesha during this time frame

There are specific mantras dedicated to the gods to honour them. Similarly, to establish a direct connection with Lord Ganesha this chaturthi, chant 108 times “Om gan ganpataye namah”. This will create a spiritual conduit for change, more than just celebration.
21 durva (blades of durva grass) that are held symbolically and are said to be extremely dear to Lord Ganesha. He truly believes that if a devotee offers him durvas with a clear conscious and the right intention, the devotee will be blessed with success and the removal of all obstacles. When one offers 21 durvas, it symbolises complete surrender of one’s entire self to Lord Ganesha.

This sacred ritual brings peace, spiritual growth, and divine blessings into one’s life.

One mantra to keep Ganesha at home, always

It is believed that most people chant this mantra only during sthapana, but if one wants Ganesha’s blessings always in their home, even after Visarjana, do not forget to chant this mantra. “Om Vakratundaya hum”, meaning, “I bow to Lord with the curved trunk (Ganesha) and invoke his energy to remove obstacles and protect me.”

The triangular shape of Modak has a deeper meaning

We all love to have sweets during festivals and other auspicious occasions. But, of all festivals, Ganesh Chaturthi holds a special place when it comes to modak, the one sweet that is Ganesha’s absolute favourite. A unique triangular-shaped sweet, filled with sweet fillings of coconut and jaggery. Although its shape represents the trigunas (Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas). When one offers modak, they are simply offering Lord Ganesha his favorite, but the devotees are also offering their ego in return for divine sweetness and blessings.

Mistakes to avoid

  1. Avoid placing the Ganesha idol in the South direction, it is said to cause friction

  2. Avoid directly placing the ideal in front of toilets or mirrors

  3. Keep the idol slightly tilted if it is not permanent

  4. Do not place the ideal on the floor directly. Always place it on a clean, decorated chowki (raised platform).
