Iconic Japanese philosophies

The Japanese culture and ethics are one that the whole world admires. Be it their art, their punctual nature, their behaviour, or the scenery around the country, it is all adorable and awe-inspiring. And the work ethics of Japanese men and women are also commendable. They are always on time, they are respectful to all, they know how to persevere through the good and bad, and much more. And a ton of this comes from the concepts and philosophies they have been following for life.
Here we mention 7 Japanese concepts that have proven to bring in great success.

2/8

Wabi-Sabi

A concept that even Elon Musk is a fan of is ‘Wabi-Sabi’. It is the philosophy of embracing imperfection, impermanence, and the beauty of the natural cycle of life. Wabi-Sabi is a philosophy that is important to understand in a world that always wants perfection, and for everything to be to the point and devoid of flaws. And to that wabi-sabi teaches people to appreciate the flaws and irregularities in everything, be it in objects, relationships, or ourselves.
As you learn more about Wabi-Sabi, you let go of the unrealistic expectations and standards the world has set for you, and yourself.

3/8

Ikigai

Ikigai is a concept known far and wide, and for all the right reasons. Ikigai tells people to find their calling, what they love and are good at, and then try to find what the world needs so you can be paid for it. If understood loosely, Ikigai is about doing what you like, which can be a part of what the world wants, and if someone wants it, you will be paid for it.
When people find their Ikigai, and do something they genuinely like, they have a reason to wake up every morning with enthusiasm, do their tasks, and stay motivated.

4/8

Kaizen

Kaizen means ‘continuous improvement’ and is a principle and concept that Japanese companies employ. The simple meaning for Kaizen is - Small, consistent changes overtime will result in long-term success one day.
And so in personal life too, applying Kaizen means improving yourself a little bit everyday, be it waking up on time, making the bed immediately, taking the bus to work, or even just logging out 5 minutes early to pursue a passion or a hobby.

5/8

Gaman

Gaman is the philosophy that teaches people to endure things with patience and dignity, because at the end, bad times pass. It teaches people to get over hardships and endure things with patience. And as modern life continues to become filled with challenges and failures, and breaking down from the rejections becomes a normal routine, Gaman tells people to persevere through it.

6/8

Shoshin

Shoshin is another concept that is a part of Japanese minds. It means ‘beginner’s mind’ and encourages people to look at things with a new, curious, and open outlook. Shoshin tells people that anything you lay your hands on or any task you get, you need to look at it with a beginner’s mind, free from any biases, preconceived notions, and ego.
And as successful and hardworking people never stop learning, and remain open to ideas, Shoshin tries to imitate just that.

7/8

Omoiyari

Away from work ethics and discipline, personal life is also important. And thus comes the concept of Omoiyari, a practice of being considerate and empathetic towards people, understanding them, and not overriding them.
Omoiyari is based on feelings and empathy, and helps people develop pleasant relationships with one another, look at problematic situations from the other person’s shoes, and creates a positive aura around people.

8/8

Kintsugi

Kintsugi is all about finding beauty even in the broken bits. It is a form of art where broken pottery and other objects are repaired with gold or silver dust, and rather than hiding the cracks and scars, they highlight it, showing people that even the journey to healing can be beautiful and unique.
Kintsugi teaches people that failures and setbacks can happen with anyone, and you can break at times, but when you heal yourself, you do not need to be sad about your scars.

So many will be interested to get trained in these 7 philosophies. Unfortunately aged people are late for this. But better late than never. Still it will be satisfying. Japanese government should liberally offer 2-3 months training programs cumulatively for these 7 philosophies. Of course make it affordable .
