The Taoist philosophy

Taoism, also known as Daoism, is an ancient Chinese philosophy and spiritual tradition that gave excellent life lessons to people, ones that are relevant and useful even today. It is said that the teachings of Lao Tzu are all mentioned in Tao Te Ching, and it is no less than a holy book. And in the simplest terms, ‘Tao’ means ‘The Wya’ and so the philosophy gives people a way to live life. From the teaching, Tao makes people aware of the natural flow of the Universe, be it how things move, how they stay, in what form they exist, and the likes.
And here we mention 6 important life lessons from Taoism.

2/7

The Yin and Yang of life

One of the most important teachings of Taoist philosophy is that balance is very important and everything has its Yin and Yang, the two opposite halves that come together as part of life. Yin represents qualities like rest, softness, and calm, while Yang is for energy, action, and brightness. And according to Taoist beliefs, neither one of them is better than the other because they are equally needed in life.
Just like your experiences are not completely good or bad, similarly, life is a mix of the good and bad, all falling together in a balance.

3/7

Balance is ‘The Way’

Taoism teaches people that balance isn’t just a small patch of road that helps you cross a stream, it is the whole path and way of life. Instead of forcing life to go in a certain direction, we should move with it because only when we stop struggling against life, we start flowing with love, positivity, and abundance.
This doesn’t mean that you become lazy and just leave everything in God’s hand, it just means that you stop forcing things to happen.

4/7

The importance of letting go

As we live life and accumulate things, we develop a habit of holding on to some of them. A little flower, the old money box, the shiny water bottle, or something more precious. And normally so, we are taught to chase things, hold on to them, achieve a little more, accumulate a lot more, and so on. But Taoism teaches people that there is beauty in letting go. Why? Because only when you empty yourself and your hand, you are able to receive more, and better.

5/7

The real treasure is inside us

Taoism gives great value to inner wisdom and tells people that instead of looking for suggestions and opinions from others, you need to look inside first for real help. Your mind, body, and spirit are full of knowledge, you just need to slow down and listen to it and give it the right importance in your life.
It is said that Tao Te Ching mentions that ‘knowing yourself is true wisdom’, and thus people should try to understand themselves before the world.

6/7

Be flexible in life

Life is unpredictable, and things can happen at any time. People can change, jobs can change, relationship dynamics can change, and your health can go from best to worst within days. And if you are too rigid to blend in the new situation, you won’t be able to survive. Taoism teaches that flexibility is strength, not weakness, and the rigid people who try to control everything eventually suffer when life does not go their way.

7/7

Give up on overthinking

Our minds are full of worries, plans, regrets, and what-ifs, and this fuels overthinking. And Taoism teaches people that peace does not come from figuring everything out, but rather from dealing with things as they come your way. It comes from stopping the chatter, the noise, and the ‘extras’, and when you return your mind to a state of calm and stillness, things naturally fall in your way.
Overthinking will just keep you anxious and exhausted, and so it is better to give up here and focus those energies on life as it shows you ‘The Way’.
