The best cities to work in Asia-Pacific

In case you are willing to shift your base for better professional opportunities, you might like to know which are the best cities to live and work in the Asia-Pacific region. A recent study done by financial analysis site ValueChampion listed down the cities that are most suitable for millennials and unfortunately, none of the Indian cities made it to any of the top five spots of this list.

2/8

The parameters of the study

The researchers analysed openly-available data collected from World Health Organisation, World Economic Forum, Deutsche Bank and a few others. Next, these cities were ranked on three parameters—employment prospects, cost of living and quality of life. Here are the ones that bagged the top five positions.

3/8

5. Melbourne

The fifth city on this list is Melbourne in Australia. It has low-levels of pollution and going by the report, residents spend about 20 per cent of their income on rent on an average. This, in turn, makes the city quite affordable to live but however, the researchers warn that unemployment rates in Australia are relatively higher than other countries mentioned on this list.

4/8

4. Guangzhou

Guangzhou in China is considered the fourth best city for millennials to live in. The city has the lowest cost of living amongst all the other cities surveyed and an average person spends just 22 per cent of his or her income on rent. And guess what! A pint of beer in Guangzhou just costs 1.22 Singapore dollars, which is around 63 INR. Whoa! The downside of living in this city is you will have to bear with high pollution levels in comparison to other cities.

5/8

3. Hong Kong

Hong Kong occupies the third position on the list as it offers high-employment rates and a strong economy. Apart from this, the city is doing tremendously well on the health front. It has high life expectancy (84.2 years) and low child mortality rate. However, the cost of living can be on a little higher side with residents spending around 31 per cent of their salary on rent.

6/8

2. Tokyo

Tokyo in Japan scores well in the overall quality of living. The pollution levels are low, the cost of living is affordable, the unemployment rate is just 2.5 per cent and the city is ranked pretty high in safety and security.

7/8

1. Singapore

Singapore secured the top spot on this list and came out to be the best city for the young generation to live in Asia-Pacific region. It has a growing economy and offers great job opportunities to millennials. With a high GDP per capita and a low unemployment rate, the research pointed that it is easier to find high-paying jobs in this city. Plus, Singapore has the lowest gender-wage gap, and scored will in terms of safety and pollution levels.

8/8

The Indian cities

None of the Indian cities made it to the top 15 of this list. Bangalore was ranked 17th, and New Delhi and Mumbai got the 19th positon. The three Indian cities scored low in terms of quality of life and cost of living.
