4 benefits of acknowledging & embracing criticism Like BTS' RM

When BTS’ Kim Nam Joon or RM from Bangtan boys was criticised for misogynistic lyrics, the star was quick to embrace it and work on it. In an interview, he shared that when he was given this feedback, he got his lyrics checked by a women's study professor. He was quick to add that it was “in-turn an opportunity” for him to “self reflect” if he was “actually being insensitive to gender equality”. If a man loved all over the world today can do this then why not us commoners? Here are 4 ways in which acknowledging & embracing criticism Like BTS' RM is advantageous for you.

2/5

You get to learn

Criticism is something not all I can take and those who do, eventually realise that it helps us learn. We do tend to overlook our mistakes until a person points it out. It is the same concept as we have in schools. Our teachers point out our mistakes and then we learn from them. Acceptance becomes a problem as we grow into adults. Whether the critic has good intentions or not, how about seeing the situation as half glass full and better ourselves? Some people are harsh critics but, so what?

3/5

It helps in building honest relationships

When someone criticizes you, instead of lashing out, if you say thank you for correcting me, it will help me in the long run, you end up building an honest relationship. By choosing to listen and not take it as a personal attack, the person criticising you sees you in a new light. Accepting constructive criticism helps in building trust with others and then both of you can eventually share ideas at work or home.

4/5

You practice honesty

When critiqued, it doesn't mean that the intention is to bring us down. It is instead a different perspective of how we are actually perceived by the other. If you can take it then you will get better at acknowledging that people can have different opinions and ideologies and that way embrace honesty. Instead of holding a grudge, you get the picture that life is more about being honest and helping improve each other.

5/5

You have insights on how you operate and improve

Feedback is something all successful people believe in. It helps in improving your game. Retain the good criticism and let go of what is unnecessary. If you ignore it, you will never be able to learn something new because some feedback is actually brilliant. It is possible that you ignored certain nuances and never thought that tweaking it could be possible right? So why not work on it?
