What annoys job seekers the most about hiring companies
Right from receiving the interview call, going for the face-to-face interaction to getting your offer letter, the process of hiring can be complicated or even frustrating at times. There are times when HR takes months to complete the hiring process, the interviewer asks questions that do not make sense or sometimes, company policies are not employee-friendly. The worst part is that a job seeker is not always in the position to complain about his or her grievances openly (who wants to offend a hiring manager, right?) nor can openly talk about particular company policies on social media. We asked seven professionals belonging to different fields about what kind of problems they face while seeking a job and here’s what they had to share.
The HR process is really slow
“I have cleared the written test and three rounds of interview for an IT firm, and have been waiting for my offer letter for two months. The HR has confirmed that I would be hired but makes an excuse whenever I call to ask the status of my offer letter. I am clueless about what is going on in their head and their entire hiring process is moving at snail’s pace,” shares Ronika Jha, 29
Negotiating the salary
“I always face this problem while negotiating my salary. The HR professionals always argue that the package they are offering is ‘as per industry standards’ and make you feel as if you are expecting an exorbitant hike on your present CTC,” tells Nikhil Tyagi, 26
At least inform about the status of the interview
“I have faced this problem a few times now. The professionals from HR department keep on calling you to fix a date for the interview and the scene completely changes once the interview is over. A few of them do not even bother to inform whether the candidate cleared or got rejected in the interview. I have been following up with an HR for weeks now, and the only thing I get to hear is your candidature has been put on hold,” shares Yatin Gupta, 32.
Salary structure can be tricky
“Some companies offer a very lucrative package on papers but the in-hand income turns out to be really low. I was recently offered a joining letter where I was given 25 per cent hike on my present CTC but my in-hand salary was actually lower than my present income because they had included gratuity, medical insurance, bonus and all the variables in the package,” shares Sumedha Jain, 35
The pressure to accept the offer letter
“Recently, a HR sent me an offer letter and mentioned in the email that it is valid only for two hours. I was in office and had no time to carefully go through it and take a decision,” tells Niyati Vema, 29
The description of the role
“Sometimes, the KRA (Key Responsibility Area) of a role is quite elaborate, full of corporate jargons and such employers expect the potential candidate to know it all. However, the package they offer is peanuts in comparison to the kind of work they are expecting,” tells Pallavi Khuranna, 28
The interview appointment
“I had specially taken a half-day off to go for a job interview and when I was about to reach the office of this prospective employer, I got a call informing me that the interview has been cancelled due to ‘some’ reason,” says Dhriti Garg, 27
