Psychology-based tricks to be confident

While hardwork is crucial for one's success in life, being confident is equally important. Confidence is a powerful trait that fuels one's success in all aspects of life. It allows you to take risks, face challenges and the ups and downs of life, and seize opportunities without fear. A confident mindset helps you communicate effectively, build strong relationships, and make decisive choices. And so, here we list some psychology-based tricks that will help you be more confident in life.

2/6

Change your inner narrative and transform your life

Instead of having a negative self talk, try being kind and loving of yourself. Stop saying 'I'm not good enough' or doubting yourself. Remember, confidence starts by rewriting your inner story. So replace your 'I can't' statements with 'What if I could' everytime self-doubt hits you. Repeat it until it sticks and see how it makes you feel more confident as a person.

3/6

Stand like a leader

Before entering any room, stand tall for a few seconds and inhale deeply. Keep your chest open, pull your shoulders back, and keep your chin slightly up- this is called the power pose. As per science, standing in the power pose can help reduces cortisol (the stress hormone) and boosts testosterone (i.e. one's confidence). So, try this pose to instantly feel more confident and happy. After all, your body language has the power to affect your brain chemistry.

4/6

Visualise being successful

Close your eyes for 20 secs and imagine yourself thriving in the room, where people are leaning in to listen to you. Feel confidence radiating from you. This will make your brain do things exactly how you imagined, thus boosting your confidence and leading to success.

5/6

Learn the 90/10 rule

Studies suggest that 90% of one's confidence is internal, while the remaining 10% is external. This indicates that power dressing has a huge impact on boosting one's confidence and how others perceive you.

6/6

Take the spotlight test

Before walking into a room the next time, act as if you are the main speaker. Psychologists call this the "Illuion of Transparency" which means that in many cases, people are too focussed on themselves to notice others' flaws. And so, practice walking slowly, smile intentionally, and hold eye contact-- doing this will boost your confidence while interacting with others.
