Common reasons why interviewers reject job applications

What could be sweeter than 'I love you' uttered by a lover? Perhaps, getting an unexpected call from an unknown number and the other person on the line tells you, "Congratulations! You have been selected for the job. We have mailed you the joining letter." That euphoric feeling of being selected for a job after clearing rounds of interviews can last for days. However, not all are lucky enough to get that much-anticipated call because a thousand candidates apply for a job that requires only one person! The people who have been given the responsibility to hire the perfect candidate for a post will go through every application carefully and scrutinize each and every detail provided. So, no mistakes would escape their hawk's eye. No wonder a person may never get to know why his application wasn't selected because he might be making the same mistakes again and again and have no idea about it. We bring to you five common reasons why interviewers reject job applications to help you understand why you get repeatedly rejected even after putting your heart and soul to clear the interview.

2/6

Overqualified or under-qualified for the job

There is a reason why employers mention specifically the years of experience or the kind of educational qualification required for a particular job. According to a recent survey, more than 50 per cent of job applications are rejected because the candidates do not adhere to the requested qualification for the job. While some might have more experience than required or others might have less experience, it really does not matter. Both are valid reasons for employers to reject the candidates.

3/6

Applied late or missed the deadline for applying for the job

All the recruiters, especially for government or public sector jobs, follow this rule very strictly. They never consider applications that are submitted after the last date for applying is over. So, it's very important for the candidates to know the exact time frame within which they are required to submit their application.

4/6

Unprofessional social media presence

When social media has become an integral part of our existence, how can employers ignore our presence in the virtual world? A lot of employers go through the social media profiles of candidates because what we write or share on social media space is a reflection of our thought process. So, in case you have shared very controversial political views or unethical and unprofessional content on your social media accounts, chances are that your interviewers might not be very pleased about this and your chances of being rejected will also increase.

5/6

When you are already earning much higher than what is on offer

Perhaps salary is the most important factor in deciding the right candidate after evaluating his or her qualification. In case you are already earning a lot more than what the job will be offering, the chances of getting rejected grow only higher. In this highly competitive world, employers would like to hire candidates who would agree to for a salary that they are offering, if not less. It's only logical that they would go for candidates who would agree to work for less sum of money, right?

6/6

Dressed inappropriately for an interview

Whether you like it or not, but there is no denying the fact that the first impression matters a lot. And it's really important to dress appropriately for an interview. You can not just walk in wearing your T-shirt that says, 'Here I am' or attend the interview wearing a pair of sports shoes unless you are applying for the role of a sports editor!
