Written by Bhannu AroraLet me tell you about this one time my colleague and I had a hilariously unfortunate incident with a train. We were supposed to catch the 9.15 pm train from Ambala to Jammu. But, as luck would have it, we got caught up in a farmer's agitation and reached the station at the nick of time, around 9 pm.
Rushing to platform number 3, we found it was a chaotic scene. Trains were delayed, and passengers were everywhere. Desperate for information, I approached this guy who seemed to know what was going on. "The train to Jammu?" he said, "Oh, it's arriving in about 30 minutes."
Relieved, we decided to grab some tea and samosas while we waited. There was a train already at the platform, but we thought nothing of it. It started moving after a while, and you won't believe what happened next. As the last bogie passed by, there it was, clear as day, "Jammu Tawi Express" written on it. That was our train!
I was in disbelief. I managed to find the guy who gave us the timings, and guess what? He was right, technically. There was another Jammu train in 30 minutes, but he never mentioned the one already at the platform. Classic mix-up!
With no other choice, we boarded the next train, paying almost double to the ticket collector for a non-AC second class seat. Our original booking was in an AC compartment, but there we were, squeezed into the crowded non-AC coach.
As we settled into our unexpected journey, all we could do was laugh at our misfortune. It was one of those moments where if you don't laugh, you'll just end up frustrated. So, with each rattle and roll of the train, we shared our story with fellow passengers, turning our little mishap into a comedy of errors. That night, the non-AC compartment of a delayed train became the setting of a memorable adventure, all thanks to a missed train and a helpful yet misleading stranger.
