5 most important things to know before getting Husky as a pet dog

With piercing eyes and wolf-like charm, Siberian Huskies are stunning dogs that have become quite popular among people. But before you fall for their looks, and think of getting a Husky as a pet, know this: They are not your average dog. Huskies come with their unique needs, which makes keeping them a bit difficult. Here we list some important things one must know before getting Husky as a pet dog:

2/6

Huskies are extremely energetic

Don’t be fooled by their couch-friendly appearance; Huskies are natural-born runners. Bred to pull sleds across long Arctic distances, they have insane energy and stamina. And so, they need vigorous daily exercise to stay happy and healthy. This includes activities like — running, hiking, or playtime; if ignored, Huskies can become bored, anxious, and destructiv pretty soon.

3/6

They’re great escape artists — So, lock everything

Huskies are popularly known as master escape artists, and rightly so. They are curious and independent in nature, and they are known to dig under fences, jump over walls, and even unlock gates. And so, if your house or yard isn't escape-proof, don't be surprised to find your Husky wandering the neighborhood — or farther. This makes microchipping, high fences, and constant supervision a must for them.

4/6

Huskies are not ideal for first-time dog owners

Why? Because Huskies are challenging to train. They’re intelligent, but also stubborn and independent. This means they’re not eager to please like some other dog breeds — they'll question your commands and test your patience. If you’re a first-time dog owner, be ready for a steep learning curve. Obedience training is crucial, and early socialization is non-negotiable.

5/6

Their shed a lot — all year round

Huskies have a thick double coat, which helps them stay warm in freezing temperatures. While it's beautiful, it sheds a lot. Twice a year, they “blow” their coat, meaning massive amounts of fur will cover your clothes, furniture, and floors. Apart from it, they also shed a lot all year round. For people with allergies or those who love cleanliness, Huskies might not be the ideal pet dog.

6/6

They are suitable for cold climates

Huskies are built for the snow. Their thick coat, furry paws, and high endurance all make them perfect for cold-weather adventures. This also means that they aren't suitable for hot climates. Huskies can overheat easily, which can make them sick and even be dangerous to their health.
