Do not feed these human foods to your dog

For most people, their pet dog is just like a family member and they often love giving them little treats and snacks as a mark of their love. And, dogs too may love sharing our food, but did you know that many human treats can be dangerous for our pets— and in some cases it can even be deadly! What’s safe for us isn’t always safe for a dog's digestive system or heart. Infact, some common human foods can even cause poisoning, organ failure, or life-threatening reactions in pets. So, here we list some such human foods that can kill your dog-- as responsible pet parent, one much avoid feeding them these:

2/6

Ice cream

While a scoop of ice cream may seem like a sweet reward, it’s highly dangerous for dogs. Most ice creams contain xylitol, an artificial sweetener that is extremely toxic to pets—even a small amount can cause liver failure or death. Additionally, ice cream contains lactose, which many dogs cannot digest properly, leading to vomiting or diarrhea. Always check ingredients and opt for dog-safe frozen treats instead. When in doubt, stick to chilled fruit like banana slices or watermelon pieces as safer alternatives.

3/6

Chips

Salty snacks like chips or crisps are terrible for dogs as these snacks have high sodium content. Dogs can’t process sodium the same way humans can, and too much salt can lead to ion poisoning. This can lead to vomiting, tremors, or dehydration; in severe cases, it can even affect the dog's brain or kidneys which can be fatal! Meanwhile, the high fat content in chips can also increases the risk of pancreatitis in dogs. So, if your dog accidentally eats a few chips, offer them plenty of clean water and watch for signs of illness.

4/6

Milk

While puppies drink milk from their mothers, most adult dogs are lactose intolerant. This means that they lack the enzyme needed to digest lactose, a type of sugar which is found in milk-- and so, dogs are unable to digest milk and having even small quantities of milk or milk products can upset their stomach.

5/6

Chocolate

While humans love chocolate, it is highly toxic to dogs! Chocolates contains theobromine, a chemical that affects a dog’s nervous system and heart. Even a small bite can cause vomiting, seizures, or even heart failure. So, avoid feeding chocolates to your dog-- not even a tiny bite.

6/6

Cookies

Cookies may look harmless, but they often contain a deadly mix of xylitol and theobromine, both of which are toxic to dogs as mentioned above. Also, cookies are high in sugar and fats, which can also cause pancreatitis— a painful and dangerous inflammation of the pancreas. So, store cookies away from your dog and do not give them as treats to them. Instead, offer dog biscuits made specifically for canine digestion and health.
