New Year resolutions for couples to take their love life to next level in 2019

What are your relationship goals?

This is the perfect time of the year when you can look back and think about how your relationship with your partner had fared, the best memories you shared, the situations you could have dealt in a better way, and look for ways on how you can take the relationship to next level in 2019. Here are some New Year resolutions that would help you to deal with your love life in a better way.

2/9

A weekly date night

Every relationship goes through a honeymoon period during the initial months and the real task is to keep that spark alive when this phase is over. Hence, make a resolution to go on a date night with your partner at least once a week and not talk about kids, bills, career, family issues or careers.

3/9

No-phone hour

Talk to your partner and take a resolution to spend one hour together every day without your phones. It might seem like a Herculean task initially (because phones are our fifth limb!) but you will surely appreciate the quality time you both will end up spending together.

4/9

Think before reacting

We all know we must think before speaking our mind, especially in the moments of rage, but not all of us actually practise it. We have got an easy fix for this problem. The next time you feel like bursting out on your partner impulsively, take a deep breath, acknowledge your emotions (whether you are feeling angry, irritated, distraught or anything else) and just ask yourself whether this issue will matter after five years or not. This way, you are bound to approach the situation more logically.

5/9

Plan a new goal

What about setting a new goal that both can achieve together? Be it starting a kitchen garden, exploring a new place every alternate month or learning a new skill. Think of something that interests both and you are all set to make 2019 special.

6/9

Me-time

Everyone needs me-time and so do you and your partner. Hence, it's important to dedicate some time to your own self when you can read a newspaper, browse social media, meditate or simply sit and do nothing. Make sure both of you take some time off and use it to recharge yourself.

7/9

Listen

Do not stay glued to your phone when your partner is talking. Do not simply nod to whatever he or she suggests; be responsive and ask questions. Be an active listener and you will be surprised to notice how this small step can make a huge difference in your relationship and all for the right reason.

8/9

Emotional honesty

Even if you are an extrovert or an outspoken person, expressing your true emotions to your partner might not be a cakewalk at times. Whether you are feeling jealous, insecure, irritated, angry or any negative emotions, it is important to let your partner know about it. It would make it much easier to sort out issues and avoid misunderstandings

9/9

The most important relationship you share

No matter how madly you are in love with your partner, never forget that the most important relationship is the one you share with yourself. If you are not happy, you can’t give your 100 per cent to your relationship either. Keep your happiness in your own hands, and be strong enough to take a step back when your relationship no longer serves its purpose.
