Why many daughters-in- laws move out of their in-laws homes

Here are some common reasons

In India, the saas-bahu, in-laws' camaraderie is a drama that many TV shows have also tapped into and minted so much moolah! The truth is that many daughters-in-law do feel their voice is stifled when they live with the in-laws and they tend to build a protective shield around them. Gen Z is now playing its cards differently. They have understood where their happiness lies and how important mental health is and they increasingly prefer not to live with their in-laws for several reasons. Here are some of the reasons that are common. Do you agree with these points? Let us know your opinion in the comments section.

2/5

Forced to follow and tolerate actions

The dynamics primarily revolve around mutual relationships. In most cases, young individuals are often expected to tolerate any actions or transgressions by their parents and in-laws, while they find themselves without much authority in such scenarios. There are only a handful of households that truly foster a comfortable mutual understanding. Even fewer have young adults who are less adaptable.

3/5

Changing values

India has seen many social and cultural changes over the years. Many women today are better educated and more independent, and most of them have career aspirations and a desire for personal freedom. Many feel that living with in-laws restricts their autonomy and opportunities for self-expression.

4/5

The unwarranted stress

Family conflicts and tensions can arise when multiple generations share the same household. Differences in lifestyle, values, and expectations can lead to unnecessary stress and disagreements. Some daughters-in-law may choose to live separately to minimise this conflict and maintain a healthier family atmosphere.

5/5

Privacy

Living with in-laws often means sharing living spaces, which can limit privacy and personal space. Some daughters-in-law may prefer to have their own home where they can create a space tailored to their needs and preferences.

Everytime it's not about privacy or freedom. Some people are still in that frame of mind that following custom and rituals are most important over the relations. Specially things given by the family of daughter in law on every occasion. That Greed spoils relations. Even in current times in-laws doing discrimination on basis of having a boy or Girl. Random talk goes on their upbringings and abusive words for parents. I must say maximum no of working, educated or independent daughter inlaws facing this on daily basis.
